Questions About Drivers (Audio and Graphics specifically)

So I figure now that I'm finally upgrading my PC, I'd like to come back to this forum and see if anything's changed.

I happen to be looking for some SoundMax audio drivers, these were unfortunately not available at the time of my original Hackintosh thus the experience wasn't enjoyable for me. I've since upgraded my GPU not requiring ATI Radeon x300, but now requiring AMD Radeon HD 7570 (note the HD part, it's not the original 7570 and is actually a good GPU, I hear anything else 7000 would work :) ).

So out of curiosity, has anyone happened to have found drivers for those? My goal would be to get a dual boot of Windows 8 and Mac OS X 10.7 running. What would be a good start for the Lion installation? And as for other specs, everything else seemed to work out of the box but the ethernet was a little iffy (when I did my XP installation years ago, I downloaded the driver for the "Intel ® PRO/100 VE Network Connection, v.7.1.12.0, A00").

As for other specs, I've got a Pentium 4 Dual core at 2.8 ghz with 2.25 gigs of RAM (soon to change to 4 gigs probably) and right now I've got a 70 gig hard drive but that'll change soon to a 500 gig. (I'd like to get it partitioned off so that i can have 420gb for Windows and 80 for OSX)

Any suggestions? Places to start? :)

Thanks in advanced,

Mike

Hi, you should find out the exact model of your audio chipset.

I can't say much about the video card but I'm pretty sure the HD 7570 despite its name belongs to the HD 6000 series and is the same as the HD 6570. You should find out if it is supported by Lion.

Under Windows 8 the graphics card is listed under the 7000 series but I'm not too sure. You can only get them in prebuilt computers (friend sent it to me). As for the sound card, I can't get the Windows 8 reading right now but when I installed XP I downloaded the drivers listed as "Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio, v.5.12.01.5246, A22" but somewhere along the line it was named SoundMax something or other.

Which OS X Lion distribution would you recommend? And is two gigs of RAM enough? If not, it'll have to wait till I get the 4 gigs hopefully. Lion has 64 bit support correct?

Lion supports both 32- and 64-bit.

2GB is a bit too little for today's standards, you will definitely see an improvement if you do the upgrade.

I practically started hackintoshing with Mountain Lion and have no other Mac experience otherwise, so you should better wait for others to reply.

Check your motherboard's vendor page and look at the specifications. I know that Mountain Lion supports AD1984 and AD1988 natively, you might even be lucky. Otherwise I'm sure there must be some patched AppleHDA around for you.

Thank you, the upgrades will be done soon enough. What Mountain Lion distro did you use out of curiosity? Because I may use Mountain Lion instead.
