The installation is pretty much the same as the Dell 17R SE 7720, download the files from this guide: http://www.insanelym...tion-guide-wip/ and from this post.

Before you begin

- Credits go to: Lejenk

- I am not using the factory Hard drive, you should do the same.

- I am not using Msata

- My Bios version is A09 and my cpu: i5 3210m

- I'm not responsible for anything

  1. Create your USB installer
  2. Copy the contents of USB_BOOT.zip to your flash drive (use IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext.zip and IOUSBFamily.kext.zip from Lejenk's topic if you want flash drives to work after installation )
  3. Install ML
  4. After the first boot, extract SLE.zip and install its contents
  5. Install VooodooHDA 2.7.3, don't forget to remove AppleHDA ( If you have sound issues, go to Applications - Utilities - Audio MIDI Setup and change the format to 44100hz)
  6. Install Keyboard kext using Kext Wizard or any method of your choice, don't forget to rebuild cache/repair permissions
  7. Install a bootloader
  8. Copy the Attached Smbios to your Extra folder
  9. Edit your boot.plist

Enable HD 4000

1920x1080 resolution boot screen

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

If you have boot problems, try -v -f or -x

10.8.3 UPDATE

I just updated to 10.8.3, no problems.

-Install the update, don't reboot

-Install all Kexts again, if you are using VoodooHDA, remove AppleHDA.

-Rebuild cache/Repair Permissions

-Done

My DSDT has no modifications, I only fixed couple errors. That is why I am using VoodooHDA, if you edit your DSDT, you wont need to edit boot.plist and install voodoohda

Power consumption is Higher than Windows, not much, but needs to be fixed, I don't know if it is the 7730m or the cpu.

PLEASE READ

Guys I am trying to make 7730m work, to do that I need the Vbios, I already tried Atiflash(generates an empty file) and GPU-Z(does not support 7730m), If anyone has another idea, please feel free to share.

Some people from another forum got 7670m working, so I am trying to do the same.

Here is what we need: http://www.insanelym...s/#entry1853099

ati_personality.pl script didn't work either

try this:

http://www.insanelym...-way-to-fix-it/

I had the same error trying to install on a different configuratin and that method worked for me

If it doesn't work, I would use another hard drive, right now I am using an SSD, not the factory Hard drive.

Dual graphics on notebooks are not supported by OS X. Only the Intel HD4000 will work. Although the card can not be used (the 7670m), it will consume power, and produce extra heat, since it is not being controlled.

So disabling the card through DSDT is your best option. Had to do the same with our 650m, battery life has doubled, and the notebook runs cool now.

Here is some info on the subject:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/289053-disabling-ati-card-through-dsdt/

Although it did not work for him, the method is well explained.

Best of luck. :)

Hi all, forgive my "stupidity," but i believe the 10.8.3 update includes the AMD 7700 series drivers (though I doubt the 7730M would be included, but it's still worth pointing out). Maybe it just needs the right injection/startup flags?

EDIT: Lejenk, the 7730M is based on a new fluxless driver model as compared to the 7670M which is based on PX4 I believe (7730M is PX5; more info available from AMD's whitepapers/technical sheets). Unlike classic dual display models, the fluxless model requires the iGPU to ALWAYS perform outputting of information, and limits the AMD GPU from outputting directly. In other words, it's not a hardware switch with the PX5 model. It's also supposed to have power management features where the 77xxM will consume minimal power until the application profile kicks in, requiring the graphics processing. In other words, CCC will determine whether the Intel chip is used or the AMD chip is used. At least, that's how it is on Windows. I doubt if the 650M follows a similar model, but since I've not used it I can't say. Any ideas?

  • 1 month later...

hello. I had tried the appleps2controller on the 17r se thread but it seems it initially wouldn't allow me to use my keyboard, but allowed my trackpad.  But upon a couple reboots, the keyboard works just fine but I can't seem to get my trackpad/touchpad to work.  I've went ahead and did a bit of research and found that my 15r se has an Elantech trackpad.  I had tried using the driver off of the osxlatitude message board but it seems like nothing works using that.  The furthest I've gotten was using rehabman's update of the voodoops2controller, where both the keyboard and touchpad work but the click, hold, and drag capability isn't emulated properly.  I've already communicated with Lejenk about it, as well as rehab man about the voodoops2controller, and posted on osxlatitude, which I'm very happy about, but I figured I might as hedge my bets and report back to everyone in case someone with similar issues can easily find a solution that can help their particular situation.

The funny thing about this is that I had assumed that as long the as fundamental make and model(Dell Inspiron 5720 15R SE) would be enough to allow for one universal solution, but apparently there are enough variants in configurations(e.g. I have a Core i7 rather than the Core i5 in the OP) to make things like the mouse/trackpad/touchpad not work across the board.

Thank you!

I have the same laptop, Dell Inspiron 7520. But after installing all the kexts, and editing boot.plist when i restart my laptop, there is a four screen problem. Screenshot attached. My resolution is 1366*768 and I used the same device properties as mentioned. Since my resolution is different, is this might be the problem of device properties string?
