Hi guys,

I have a Asus G73JH gaming laptop, and from some of the post here, it has been successfully made into a Hackintosh quite a few times.

The specs are: i7 720QM with 8GB RAM and ATI Mobility Radeon 5870.

Here are links from oldest to newest that I followed:

My question is, I don't want to wipe Windows 7 clean. My plan is to install Hackintosh on an external hard drive (USB Hard drive of 1TB). This means that if I don't plug in my external USB hard drive, then my laptop boots regularly into Windows 7. But if I plug in my external hard drive and start my laptop, it gives me an option to boot into Hackintosh.

I want to know is this possible, (I have heard that it is from some sites), but I also want to know will performance be hindered if not installed on internal hard drive?

My second question, some of the older tutorials recommend that I set a maxmem limit to 4096 in Empire EFI if my RAM is above 4GB. Is this still needed?

Cheers guys,

Yes it is possible as such and it would work. However you should check if all the components of your PC are supported in SL(I'm not saying they aren't, but it worth checking before attempting installation) it is possible that a newer version of OS X would be a better option. USB/firevire external HDD will not be as fast as an internal one. So it might be quite slow. Depending on what you intend to use the PC for, it may or may not be OK.

No, if you configure your system properly.

I don't intend to use any firewire, just a regular external USB 2.0 HDD.

My plan is such that my laptop is untouched and starts in Windows 7 like nothing happened. But if I plug my external HDD in, I have the option to boot in Hackintosh using the external HDD that it resides on.

But the question is, I am not sure what I need to do differently from the tutorial I mentioned above that would allow me to boot Hackintosh from an external USB2.0 HDD.

Apparently SL 10.6.8 Works very well with this Laptop of mine from what a lot of people are saying.

Thank you guys, I hope I can get it working like how I intend to. I heard from a lot of people that this forum is very helpful in getting a fully working hackintosh.
