Greetings InsanelyMac Community!

I'm trying to install Mountain Lion on to my computer. I had great sucess with Leopard / Snow Leopard with everything working except the GPU ( GTX 550 TI ) I heard that the GPU was to new for Leopard / Snow Leopard so i went for Mountain Lion. Those are my problems.

When i try to boot up Mountain Lion ( I'm running a AMD Kernel from http://www.insanelym...testing-on-amd/ ) I get this message. And it's just stuck there. I am able to boot in to the system with -x. I got a Nforce Chipset.

I hope you readers have a great day

Best regards Fadel

I am having the same issues. I have been through every guide I can find here and none of them are resolving this issue. I have tried both lion and mountain lion guides, but I always get stuck at this point.

I have put the applenforceata.kext 64 bit from imk in the s/l/e folder, booted up with almost every flag I have seen in this forum and still nothing. I was told by theconnactic to set my sata config to raid because my board doesnt support ahci. I did that, reformatted both my sata drives and still nothing.

I am at a loss. Can anyone give some advice to this issue?

Hi

you can use the search feature, there are many topics!!!

you can start with this thread

I think you need

imk's 64bit AppleNForceATA.kext (read

this thread)

Greetings mate! I am using the AppleNForceATA.imk64bit.kext

First time i was going to boot up my mac i got the waiting for root device. So i installed that kext. And now i got the Found 0 units error.

Hey Verdant! im glad to hear from a great developer!

In the first link you posted. The titles says ( Snow Leopard ) Im using Mountain Lion. Does that make any difference? or can the kext provided in the link be used on Mountain Lion? Thank you really much for your patience and help!

I'm sorry for asking so many questions.

But why does this error occur? Is it because my kext is not usable for my Motherboard? or is it something else? Would be really pleased to know why this error is showing! Thanks again InsanelyMac Community!

If only I were a "proper" developer, e.g. like Slice et al. ...... :wallbash:

As regards OS X versions, the only issue is whether or not the MOBO Southbridge chipset "ATA" kext is 32bit only capable, or 32bit/64bit capable, or 64bit only capable since:

OS X Leopard kernel is 32bit only capable

OS X Snow Leopard kernel is 32bit/64bit capable

OS X Lion is 64bit only capable

OS X Mountain LIon is 64bit only capable

As regards the original AppleNForceATA.kext and its later variants, it depends upon whether the Intel CPU MOBO or AMD CPU MOBO has a AHCI compliant nForce chipset or not.....

If it is not fully AHCI compliant, then an AppleNForceATA.kext should work (subject to the OS X version constraints), whereas if it is fully AHCI compliant, then in most instances, the AppleNForceATA.kext will not work......see here for SATA and PATA Device IDs which work and do not work with the original MeDevil AppleNForceATA kexts..........hence, my Post #1 Note Bene 1, 2 and 3 here........

Finally, your BIOS settings need to be set up correctly for OS X, e.g. see my OS X BIOS settings templates for the nForce xxxi series of chipsets for Intel CPU MOBOs, which are linked to in my nForce topics on IM......they may be helpful for AMD CPU nForce chipset MOBO BIOS settings too......

@verdant

I read in a few places that raid implies ahci. So if you set the configuration to raid on a non ahci compatible board.and install windows, get the raid controllers device I'd and enter it into the AHCIPortInjector.kext it should find the devices. Can you confirm this?

I would try it myself, but I have already switched to raid, reformatted and lost my SL and windows partitions and tried to install lion and mountain lion twice... Thing is, I didn't know about the port injector at that point. I was just wondering if anyone could confirm that this may work before I wiped partitions for a third time.

Thanks.

Yes, AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) is a technical standard defined by Intel that specifies the operation of Serial ATA (SATA) host bus adapters.

However, RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) is a much older technology that predates AHCI and SATA technology, but which nonetheless offers essentially the same feature set, i.e. functionality, that is available in AHCI making them identical in single hard drive applications.

Which is why enabling RAID mode and the SATA controller in the BIOS of a non-Intel, i.e. non-AHCI MOBO, while disabling the individual SATA RAID channels in the BIOS, effectively enables the AHCI feature set as far as OS X and SATA devices are concerned.

I hope this answers your question.........see my OS X BIOS settings template for nForce chipset MOBOs via the links in my nForce OS X Install Guide topics...... :)

I was looking around at ahci compatible sata controllers to buy so I might be able to get this working and came across this thread over in osx86 forums.

http://www.osx86.net/10-8-mountain-lion/18823-ip35-e-no-ahci-mountain-lion.html

Will this kext work? I would try it myself, but I gave up on it for a bit and installed windows 8 on my raid drive. So to try it I would need to reformat etc.

@SheldonDDOS you should try that kext and see if it fixes the issue. It sounds like it may. But I'm not experienced.

The kext you refer to has these constraints:

Here is a modded IOATAFamily (v2.5.1) from the 10.7.0 Lion Install Disk Image.

It enables booting and installing from SATA IDE Enhanced/Compatible Mode. It's for those who can't boot/install with AHCI nor have this option in BIOS. ONLY FOR ICHx-based SATA chipsets/southbridges. That means, no VIAATA or no JMicron.

It should also allow you to see all SATA ports in your system.

Tested and working on an Asus Maximus II Formula (P45) MotherBoard in Enhanced IDE SATA Mode.

So it will not work on nForce chipset MOBOs either, only on Intel ICHx chipset MOBOs.....
