I don't plan on replacing the LCD, so I'm really considering the option to format and install Sierra. Especially that based on the comments almost nobody has reported the freezing issue with High Sierra and we have no clue about what is causing the freezes.

I also have freezing issues. As I changed the processor for another (2nd hand) one I thought it might be the processor or the ram memory.

I ran Linux memtest for a whole day. No issues at all! So the T420 should be ok!

Replacing the lcd (for a HD version) is not the problem but I want to be sure that solves all problems.

Hi,

This is my first post to this forum. I have a Lenovo T420 with i5 and HD3000 1366x768 screen.

I need to run Snow Leopard as I have some Pro Apps that do not work properly in Mountain Lion and later.

I've managed to boot of ##### Legacy CD and installed Snow Leopard on the slim expander HD.

I can't get it to boot off the slim expander HD but can boot off the legacy ##### CD ( which is connected via USB ).

It would be nice to boot off the HD but I could live with booting off the CD. I ran the post install bits but it still doesn't boot of HD.

My main problem is the display. Its only 1024 x 768. Is they a way to get Snow Leopard to work at 1366x768 and also is it possible

to get the external video port at the side to work as well with Snow Leopard.

Thanks.

@ASROCK_IIfxThe first OS I put on the T420 was Mountain Lion 10.8. Are there AppleIntelH3000Graphics kexts/drivers in snow leopard? Otherwise you will left wih using the basic video driver for the VESA sizes.

I'm trying to get my T420 running Higher Sierra stable but after being logged in for about 20 minutes (and usually when I'm not actively doing anything), the OS would lock up but my mouse would still be usable; I wouldn't be able to click on anything though. It sometimes turned into the spinning beach ball but would otherwise be non-functional.

Anyone else run into a similar issue? I'm not sure how to log the crash if this is indeed a crash but I can post logs if someone could tell me how to record it. Any suggestions?

I have encounter the same issues a few times.

Yes, I have 10.6.8 running on an Apple iMac early 2006 and can see IntelHD kexts in its /S/L/E. 10.6.8 introduced HD3000 capability.

However I just can't get 10.6.8 working on my T420. 10.6.3 installs fine and then I upgrade to using 10.6.8 combo and it won't  boot.

10.11.6 is running fine on my T420 but would love to be able to run Snow Leopard with Intel video.

Hi, the Patch Framebuffer Levels and Replace 4th port with VGA in config.plist work, but it only work when I plug vga on start up or before wake up from sleep. But when I hot plug it when os is still running, the patch does not work and the vga doesn't receive signal

Neither of these ran in Snow Leopard.

Do I need to run them on an up to date Mac ?

this is expected since VGA is not an active signal.

@poopsnaggle make sure that AppleCPUPM is ticked under kext and patches under clover bootloader.. Otherwise, you'd have to make sure NullCPUPowerManagement kext is inside your installer EFI/Clover/kext/other folder..

hmm. seems like you are using Chameleon? i see references to loading of config and kexts from /Extra ???

otherwise, maybe you could copy the already installed snow leopard from your real mac to a HD partition for your T420 system?

Hi tluck,

I'm going to try a different tack. First of all my current drive that has El Capitan on is only a 64Gig SSD which works fine but I have a spare 250 Gig spinning disk and have partitioned that in to two halves. I want to put El Capitan on one half and get that up and running. El Capitan has been running fine so I will use that again. Thing is Insanelymac seems to have changed over the last week or so and I can't find your original pages for putting El Cap on to a T420. Your latter posts refer to packages that are for Sierra or High Sierra. Please could you point me to the post for El Cap on T420 as I can't seem to find it. Once I've got El Cap running on the larger drive I might try and put Snow Leopard on the other half. My T420 is i5 and HD3000 1366x768 , also has broadband 3G module. Not sure if I'd ever get that working under OSX.

Thanks.

El Cap zip https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=240230

Sierra works quite well too. (current zip supports it). High Sierra is doing great on one of  my T420 systems - the one that has an LG display vs not-very-good-at-all AUO display.

Thanks for the zip.

Please could you direct me to the instructions page as I can no longer find it.

My old bookmarks go up to page 201 for this topic but now it only seems to have 162 pages since insanelymac

changed a week or so ago :-(

Thanks tluck.

I'll try and install ElCap on one partition and get it all working, then try Snow Leopard on the other.

BTW can't get my avatar photo on side ( only at bottom )

      Bonjour,

      Perhaps it was the first NEC (Lenovo) Lavie Z HZ550 to install hackintosh. I hope more people who like Lavie Z series can experience Hackintosh at HZ550. She is really great.

      I found HZ550 & HZ750 on the Chinese website, which is amazing. It weighs only 790g, 13.3 inches, and the standard 2k screen, which is too attractive to me. I am a Hackintosh enthusiast. I think HZ550 or HZ750 with MacOS is the best Unfortunately, the Lavie Z series is not listed in China, only exists in the Japanese and American markets, and in the Japanese market is the NEC brand, while the American market uses the Lenovo logo.

      Fortunately, I got an HZ550 from Taobao. Yes, not HZ750. In comparison, HZ750 has more touch screens and 360 ° flip. These are hard to attract me. More importantly, HZ750 is about 200g heavier than HZ550 That's why I chose HZ550. Well, because he is only 2,000 RMB.

      The specific introduction can refer to NEC Japan official website:http://nec-lavie.jp/products/hz13b/

      The HZ550 hardware list I obtained:

                       -/+:.          ningnan@ningnandeMacBook-Air
                      :++++.          OS: 64bit Mac OS X 10.15.5 19F96
                     /+++/.           Kernel: x86_64 Darwin 19.5.0
             .:-::- .+/:-``.::-       Uptime: 19m
          .:/++++++/::::/++++++/:`    Packages: 1
        .:///////////////////////:`   Shell: zsh 5.7.1
        ////////////////////////`     Resolution: 3840x2160
       -+++++++++++++++++++++++`      DE: Aqua
       /++++++++++++++++++++++/       WM: Quartz Compositor
       /sssssssssssssssssssssss.      WM Theme: Blue (Dark)
       :ssssssssssssssssssssssss-     Disk: 11G / 108G (12%)
        osssssssssssssssssssssssso/`  CPU: Intel Core i7-5500U @ 2.40GHz
        `syyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy+`  GPU: Intel Iris Graphics 6100
         `ossssssssssssssssssssss/    RAM: 4376MiB / 8192MiB
           :ooooooooooooooooooo+.
            `:+oo+/:-..-:/+o+/-

      Advantages: small size, light weight, 2K screen, 8G memory, 512g SSD, keyboard feels good, and wireless network card can be replaced, which is unimaginable in today's thin and light books.
      Disadvantages: The sound is small, almost the same as the mosquitoes.

      Ok, bragging is over!
      In order to use the wireless network, I changed the wireless network card from inter 7265 to BCM94352ZAE. Some people called it DW1560. It is uncomfortable that in China, this card and his elder brother DW1830 were hyped to a high price of 480RMB. of. Fortunately, I bought it early, and this card is also very stable under win10, and there is no high delay and outage. The hard disk should be PM951 of Samsung, not PM981, which is lucky.   Before installing Hackintosh: You need to prepare a 16G U disk, SanDisk is not a rough choice for making MacOS installation disk, I used the latest MacOS Catalina 10.15.5, got config.plist from Rehabman, and put together an EFI, the latest version of clover and kext drivers. Thanks to Rehabman and the developers of the Black Apple community. I do n’t like that OC team very much.
      Make an installation disk: If you have a computer running MacOS, you can use the command line to make it, if you do n’t have a computer running MacOS, you can try VMware, I know that the insanelymac forum allows discussion, or use ether to write the image to U disk, use the EFI I provided to boot into the installation process.   BIOS setting: Press F12 at boot to enter the BIOS settings, Tab switches to "Security-Secure boot", set to "DISable", this is what we need, and switch to "Boot -Boot devices", set the U disk as the first boot item You can directly enter the clover guide interface, please follow it for google it.
      It is worth noting that the remaining space of your EFI partition needs to be greater than 200M, otherwise, the disk format will be wrong. In addition, the format partition format is APFS, do not choose to encrypt, your data is not valuable, at least you must have this awareness of Hackintosh, the file safe is also the same, do not enable, do not use to find your mac, otherwise, change the machine, OK .   Fortunately, no additional ssdt patch is required. All the patch functions are implemented through clover. The flat Apple is turned on. This is to solve the problem of the flower screen. You can find a solution yourself.
      Experience your black apple, this will bring a better experience than MacBook Pro. EFI_HZ550.zip
