Hello folks! As some things are being fixed, we'll keep you updated. Per hour the Forum Rules don't have a dedicated "Tab", so here is the place that we have our Rules back. New Users Lounge > [READ] - InsanelyMac Forum Rules - The InsanelyMac Staff Team.

Installing from VM created image

Is it possible to install 10.8 from a image created in a virtual machine? It seems to me that this would make sense in order to get the OS working properly for the components that you have. In a sense you would be doing all your troubleshooting and refining in VM istead of doing it " on the fly ".

That would be install to a freshly formatted partition or blank drive.

You do realise a VM doesn't mimic your computer hardware therefore renders the task pointless?

Correct, would almost certainly fail on a Hackintosh. If you were using a real Mac then yes it should work. I have used Carbon Copy Cloner to P2V and V2P images.

And I use DeployStudio to create images (on MacBookPro)

Works perfectly on real Mac as it will Netboot from Lion Server

But I could never manage (did not spent that much time really on figuring it out if it can be somehow done) to boot VM via Netboot

So just used another copy of a running Lion in VM & diskutil to restore DeployStudio created image

Works perfect
