Is there a PCI-E Graphics card that works right out of the box?

I've been checking out the OSX86 wiki, but most of the cards need experimental drivers or patches to be made. :)

As the new Mac Pro computers do use the latest Nvidia and ATI PCI-E graphics, this "patching requirement" is strange to me.

I want:

PCI-Express and not AGP.

1280*1024 resolution.

Quartz Extreme / CI.

The cheapest possible to handle this. I'm NOT a gamer and don't need any fancy 3D engines.

I can't even install video editing software or change resolution using my current X1300.

Running OSX86 JaS 10.4.6 installation with JaS 10.4.7 update+Semjaza 10.4.7 update.

Which PCI gfx would be my choice? And why?

ATI (preferably without any Boris patches)? Matrox (anyone tried them in a Hackintosh)? Nvidia (do I really need MacVidia)?

XT works out of the box with QE & CI.

Resolution can be fixed in preferences (com.apple.boot.plist)

Or install boris (Neopheus package) to make things easier later.

And no 'Boris' needed? :)

I'd rather have a card where I don't have to edit kexts.

I can only find X1600PRO in store btw.

not to be rude but maybe this isn't the right os for you then because nothing here works without a little tinkering.

yes the best success you'll have is with a x1600 series card.

I have a x1600pro made by Sapphire and it works great, cept I can only get 1440x900 out the VGA side not the DVI plug.

Also be careful of the Asus 1600XT because I thought I read that there are different revisions and some may give problems..although I could be wrong.

not to be rude but just because my first priority would be a card that just works, does not mean i'm dumb and don't know how to edit/patch/tune and optimize my os ^_^

if the x1600+patches is the best/cheapest choice, then alright... thanks.

i was just assuming there would exist some less complicated gfx card solutions too

I have a x1600xt and it still requires boris method to get rid of screen artifacts. You're not going to get much 'out of the box' with OSX86 and full video support - it just doesn't happen. Get a x1600XT (I have the Sapphire) and take the 5 minutes to edit the kext and you'll be way happier.

(Btw - the newest 10.4.7 Neopheus package doesn't work with the sapphire X1600XT - get a white screen. Edit the 10.4.5 drivers instead and it works great.)
