I installed 10.4.6 from a bootable DVD onto an external USB HDD. Everything worked fine. But then I wanted to install a fresh copy of 10.4.6 on my SATA HDD so I don't have to use the USB HDD. After installation and reboot, I got the "Missing Operating System" error and it won't boot into my SATA HDD. The SATA HDD is formatted as HFS+, active, and primary.

Please help!

Sounds like a bootloader error. What bootloader are you using - Darwin, chain0, Acronis?

For most people hdd must primary primary master and dvd/cd rom primary slave...

Not with SATA - there is no master or slave with SATA. Besides, his HDD is on a SATA chain and his DVD is on a PATA chain.

I had the same problem now.

Because of lack of experience,

I installed OSX 10.4.6 Myzar version on my 40G logical partition before.

Then transfered logical to primary partition with Acronis Disk Suite 10, It booted with no problem.

Several days ago, I formatted & enlarge my OSX partition to 55G,tried to re-install,

but this time with no luck.

I directly installed OSX on the 2nd primary 55G partition,set active,id = af,

I got the "missing operating system" error.

(boot with osx DVD ok, but .... you know. )

I went back to try the used method mentioned above

(install on logical 55G partition, then transfer to primary, active)

but I got the "HFS+ error".

Maybe I must try to formatted my 1st partition XP NTFS system,

install OSX on 1st primary partition,XP on 2nd primary partition. :D

Any ideas??

Im not sure about that. The last time i tried instaling windows in 2nd primary partition it never booted. Maybe i did something wrong but you can go ahead and try it for yourself.

As for the boot error im experiencing the same on my loptop.iv never had this problem before on my pc. If i do get past this il post it here for you. Just an idea thou try deleting the partition and using disk utility in your mac cd to make the partition.

Installing to the primary partition is the way to do it. But if you are using the Acronis bootloader, it gets confused when you reinstall on a partition.

After installing on the primary partition, fix Acronis like this:

I would intall OSX, then use gparted live cd to set the parition to boot by using the flags! then boot, if that works, then install windy windows, and then use ur bootloader!!
