Jack Donker
PowerMac G5 Late 2005 Vanilla mod no cuts Preparing days: (Finished Now see below for all pictures in Picassa) Hello, I am starting a G5 Late 2005 no cuts mod. And I will be using the Late 2005 front panel where everyone is so panicking about. Day 1: So first I had to get a G5 case, where do you search? eBay ! So I found a nice on in Germany, (I Live in the Netherlands) and bought it for €107 including shipping. Day 2: So 3 days after order my G5 Case arrived. I was really surprised it had an different front panel than I had seen on the internet. I already had the connector for it but since my Front Panel didn’t have an connector it seemed really complicated. But I thought what the heck, it has to be finable on internet what I have to do. But no!! I have not find anyone who explained how it has to be done. After hours I found one guy who has done this before: http://www.insanelym...pic=100720&st=0 But his diagram of the pin out did not seem right to me. And he didn’t explained how it had to be done. So I continued searching and found the original diagram from Apple. And someone else already had put it on insanelymac.com. So that was day 2. Day 3: I dissembled everything out of the case and purchased these things: Firewire: VIA VT6306 without firewire internal pins InLine 6 Pin internal firewire to external Arctic Cooling 92 mm Fan AF9L 2x for back Sata Power Cable extendor 0.5m Scythe 135mm Fan Kama blue led for Front Intake and it looks cool ;-) And This is the hardware I will put in: AsRock H61M/U3S3 (I have been with Gigabyte normally but AsRock is just perfect. It has features no other mobo has and still cheap and great.) Intel Core i5 2550K OC to 3.8Ghz (Yes this mobo has a unlocked multiplier till 3.8Ghz) 8GB 1333Mhz RAM Nvidia GTX 550 ti 3GB OC 1TB Hitachi HD for Mac and Windows 7 x64(only for gaming) So this is the Front Panel Pinout I used: 01 02 03 04 05 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 15 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 Audio USB Firewire Button/LED unknown 01: Audio Left 02: Audio GND 03: Audio Right 04: Don't put a cable here 05: FIREWIRE GND (double) 06: USB VCC (+5V) 07: GND 08: GND 09: FIREWIRE TPB- 10: FIREWIRE TPB+ 11: LED 12: Firewire FW802C IC VDDA (+3.3V) This one goes in the PSU cable see below 13: Don't put a cable here 14: GND 15: FIREWIRE VCC (double) (+12V) 16: GND 17: USB D- 18: USB D+ 19: GND 20: FIREWIRE TPA- 21: FIREWIRE TPA+ 22: Power BUTTON Where it says 3.3Vdc|Vs you're gonna put Nr 12 (I used a special plastic with iron to make from 2 cable 1) So here is what I did: Here a Friend is cutting out the place for the fan Here are the rest of the pictures: https://picasaweb.go...feat=directlink <table style="width:194px;"><tr><td align="center" style="height:194px;background:url(https://picasaweb.google.com/s/c/transparent_album_background.gif) no-repeat left"><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/100254571448990169417/PowerMacG5NoCutsMod?authuser=0&feat=embedwebsite"><img'>https://picasaweb.google.com/100254571448990169417/PowerMacG5NoCutsMod?authuser=0&feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-gYvPTkq6CQ8/T89pg7z5IKE/AAAAAAAAAZ4/uisQ5AJdNG4/s160-c/PowerMacG5NoCutsMod.jpg" width="160" height="160" style="margin:1px 0 0 4px;"></a></td></tr><tr><td style="text-align:center;font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:11px"><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/100254571448990169417/PowerMacG5NoCutsMod?authuser=0&feat=embedwebsite" style="color:#4D4D4D;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:none;">PowerMac G5 No Cuts Mod</a></td></tr></table> THX Conti:
Blah101
I have the same case. Even though I cut mine, I am interested to see how yours comes out. It would be really great if you got that front panel to work. I just went and bought the earlier model to avoid the hassle.
