Hey guys

I've just built a new 10.6.8 disk (upgrading from 10.6.7 failed miserably) and everything seems to work ok except the graphics card:

My main monitor is DVI-D Dell 2711 and this only comes on if I have a vga screen also connected to the graphics card. With both screens connected the VGA is active during boot up and the DVI takes control once desktop is reached.

If I turn on the computer with just the DVI screen attached I see the boot up sequence on it but then it goes black at the point it should switch to the desktop.

Argh! Am I being stupid??

Thanks very much for any help you guys can give!

Mobo is Gigabyte EX58 UD5 btw

If you can, use a DVI to VGA adapter during boot up. Had the same issue on an ati 4870. Had to use the adapter to show the desktop at first boot, then installed the updated kext for my video card

yeh i'm with nvidia though so this 'should' be fully supported by the os. and the DVI monitor DOES work, but only when i boot with the VGA monitor attached. doesn't make sense to me...

i've tried installing the latest nvidia drivers and it says I already have them so there's something else going on.... hmn??
