Mobility Radeon 9600?

A quick question for all you clever folks:

JaS10.4.6 installs great. Nice and smooth. Regrettably something is amiss with the graphics driver (as illustrated by horribly corrupted screens upon HD boot.)

Apparently the solution to this is to delete all the ATI* files from the /System/Library/Extensions folder.

Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to do this without being able to boot into OSX.

There's some way to set the boot flags (e.g. -x -v, etc.) but I have no clue what it is. It appears documentation on how to carry out this simple task is rather scant.

How do I get to a safe mode console such that I can delete these files and have a working graphics driver for my Mobility Radeon 9600?

You want to hit F8 as soon as you select OSX86 to boot; this brings up a prompt that lets you press enter to boot Mac OS or enter some extra parameters. You want to type:

-x "Graphics Mode"="1024x768x32"

and press enter. Replace the resolution above according to your screen, but the one I placed in above is a pretty safe, standard one.

I have a Mobility Radeon 9700 and that worked for me.
