Hello Everyone,

I'm Blake and I'm new to the OS X system.  Been a Windows user and decided to try out Mac.  I just purchased an iBook G4 and an iMac G5 both with OS X on them.

Hi all. Obligatory "hello" post here. I know nothing, really, about building computers - but what better place to start? Like I'm sure many other people have, I want to build a media server type arrangement. Basically, I think I just want to build a Mac Mini.

Looking forward to learning more. (Let's face it, I couldn't exactly know less!)

Hello, my names Joe

Hello, my names Joe. I'm new to install OS X on hackintosh but I'm not new to figuring out complex problems in windows. I'm trying to switch to Mac OS X without the hefty price. (I hate windows though)

I know nothing, really, about building computers -

You don't have to physically build your computer yourself. A friend or a shop can do it. You should know which compatible parts to buy according to your budget.

Welcome everybody :)

Hi am James

I just need OSX to build my apps on all devices. Looking forward to simpler days where I don't need 3 build enviroments xD

Fun concept with the Quizzes :P Thought the question about a computer isn't able to get a virus from internet download, scanner and ..... All 3 are a possible source, on-premise devices with embedded software is lately more frequently targeted. So it is possible that there already exist a "paper" virus that will infect your machine if you scan it (it will properly be written for a specific device).

Hello,

I am hoping this is a credible site.

I am very new to thiis Hackintosh thing, and I must say I'm disappointed. I have not experienced this many bogus tutorials since my Xbox 1 modding days. I am hoping these forums will give me legitimate, credible tutorials I am searching for. Very frustrating.

Remarkable. So in a couple of years, also by installing OS X 4 times, you have learned nothing? :surprised:

I am hoping this is a credible site.

We would like to think so. This forum is where all started. We would like to believe we are still THE paradigm for hackintoshing. Others came after us, some reliable (but smaller) some definitely not, interested only in making money and exploiting genuine developers and users.

Hi, you can just call me Toxic. Living in Eastern U.S.A.. I just recently started messing around with Hackintosh. I'm currently running an old Dell Optiplex GX520 on OS X 10.6.2. After I read and learn more, I plan to move on up to 10.6.8.

Hello Guys,

Name her is Kenyon. I've always been OS X curious but I'm not willing to dive completely in due to some of the programs I use are Windows only. I'm interested in all things computer related and love tinkering. Looking to get OSx running on my AMD setup.

Hey up people!  Just signed up and reasonably new to the Hackintosh scene (4 weeks roughly).

I hope to pick at your brains and knowledge as I enter a new world of Apple Mac and specifically Mac OS on a PC!

Thanks for having me.

Hi, I'm new here. I have been reading the forums for a month now without an account and i figured it's time to jump in the band wagon. My understanding of Hackintosh is far from complete but i can't wait to start getting hands on! Looking forward to interacting with this community icon_e_biggrin.gif

Many users wonder why we do not support tonymac's products here at InsanelyMac. The reason is that we believe he is a commercial spin-off of the OSx86 scene, and it's not in the spirit of OSx86 to have commercial intents with development.
These are the main reasons why we don't approve posting his material here (why he's a commercial spin-off):

      1. His software is not open source. This is often confused because most people equate open source software with free software. This is definitely true, but it doesn't grasp the entire scope of open source; open source also includes releasing source code for the product, which tonymac fails to do. The OSx86 community believes everything should be open source.

      2. The construction of his site is set up with emphasis on donation buttons and (affiliate) links to Amazon and Newegg, hinting at interests of profit.

      3. The intent of gaining profits is basically confirmed by marketing his projects with suggestions of donations as though he deserves it, even though his products (most notably #####) is a compilation of products/drivers developed by others (not himself) that any non-programmer could put together.

      4. You must pay for the tonymac software. Although this may seem reasonable considering the effort involved in building a customized installer for specific computer builds, again, it is not in the spirit of OSx86 to charge for software development, so the wiser idea would most likely be not to offer that service at all. Even though it may be nice for newbies, in my opinion it does not encourage education but rather laziness. I say this because the OSx86 movement is designed as an educational movement, where by hacking Mac OS X you can learn more about the operating system works, how computers work, etc., like how many of us do. However, the purpose of OSx86 is not a way to get a cheap Mac, which I personally believe is encouraged by tonymac's software considering it is marketed to perform a task without any sort of explanation of how it works.

From another perspective: http://prasys.info/2011/01/tonymac-seriously/ This covers one of the issues brought up by developers.

In two sentences: at InsanelyMac, we want to keep moral standards high and safeguard genuine developers.
At tonymacx86 they take from others without giving credit.

In order to make sure that it doesn't happen any longer, staff have now a new guideline:
