AeroShark
Hi, So I've installed lion on my laptop using #####. However after running ##### my system would hang. I eventually figured out the problem was the patched appleRTC. So I just ran ##### installing everything that ##### does except the appleRTC patch. I could only boot my install using my ##### flash drive tho. After copying over smbios.plist and org.chameleon.Boot.plist from ##### to my extra folder on my install I could finally boot without ##### flash drive but my laptop mouse and keyboard would no longer work. After a lot of debugging I found that removing ApplePS2Controller.kext from my HD install and booting from my ##### flash drive makes my mouse and keyboard work. I then removed all the other kexts from my ##### extra/extensions folder to make sure it was just ApplePS2Controller.kext So basically: mouse and keyboard only work when using #####(even with just ApplePS2Controller.kext in the extra/extensions folder of the flash drive) to boot my HD install. If I boot directly from the HD or boot from my flash drive with ApplePS2Controller.kext still installed on my HD (either in extra/e or s/l/e) keyboard and mouse will not work. My boot flags are -v cpus=1 busratio=20 and i have also tried with -f and arch=i386. what might be causing this? im just at a loss now for how to debug further. thanks in advanc! Foxic
I had a similar issue, it got too confusing so I just installed the latest VoodooPS2 drivers. AeroShark
I still can't figure out what's going on... one thing I noticed in the 3rd line of kernel.log, it says 64-bit mode enabled, but I booted with flag arch=i386. Am I missing something? Shouldn't that flag boot it into 32-bit mode? I've herd of voodoops2 only working on 32 bit so maybe this is the root of the problem? Does anyone know if arch=i386 flag alone would not be enough to force 32bit mode for some reason? Or any other ideas why voodoops2 doesn't work or why the situation described in my first post occurs? Thanks! AeroShark
Bump... does anyone have any ideas for the op? Even just vague guesses/routes I could investigate farther? Please? I'm completely at a loss, I don't see how having the extension on the flash drive instead of the hard drive should make any difference... Foxic
Have a look in the boot.plist on your flash drive, see if it's using some different flags. then give them a try. AeroShark
Thanks! Unfortunately, thats's part of the mystery. I copied org.chameleon.Boot.plist and even smbios.plist from my flash drive to my hard drive (overwriting the old ones on my hard drive). Any other ideas/possibilities? Foxic
did you install appleps2 to E/E or to S/L/E? AeroShark
Thanks for the quick response, I've tried both E/E and S/L/E...neither work :/ Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/274248-appleps2controllerkext-only-works-when-loaded-from-flash-drive/#findComment-1785671 Share on other sites
AeroShark
I also just tired a fresh install with #####. After installing chimera I directly copied over the extra folder from the flash drive to the hard drive, ran kext utility to repaire permissions and reuild caches. And then ran diskutil repairPermissions / for good measure. Boots fine but still no mouse/keyboard. Any other ideas? Foxic
What is on the flash drive? Kexts or a pre boot.dmg? There must be a kext conflict. If you have xy.kext in E/E and S/L/E, one being patched, one being original respectively, you may be having a conflict. Try replacing the original xy.kext in S/L/E with the patched one in E/E, always backup your kexts first obviously. AeroShark
At this point for debugging purposes I've hallowed out my flash drive to just contain the Extra folder, usr folder and boot files. Even the E/E on the flash drive is hallowed out to only containt ApplePS2. Booting from flash drive without ApplePS2 in the hard drive's S/L/E or E/E, trackpad and keyboard work. Booting from flash drive with ApplePS2 in the hard drive's S/L/E or E/E or both, trackpad and keyboard do not work. Booting from the hard drive with ApplePS2 in S/L/E or E/E or Both or neither, trackpad and keybaord do not work. I always repair my permissions and rebuild extensions and try four boots (without -f or arch=i386, with -f, with arch=i386, with -f and arch=i386). I'm puzzled. AeroShark
Ok, so I've also been searching and trying random versions of voodooPS2 from different places and finally found one that at least gave me partial trackpad functionality and keyboard. The thing is half the time the mouse is ok with multitouch and everything but alot of the time the mouse will start jumping like crazy when you touch the trackpad, or will start left clicking randomly. I don't know if that's the kext or my trackpad... if it's the kext then just ignore this i guess and go back to trying to get appleps2 to work, or if there's some sort of known fix for this (I haven't found anything from searching) that'd be great to and i can just forget the appleps2 weirdness. So know of anything? Foxic
Have you tried replacing the kexts in S/L/E with the ones on the flash drive (overwriting the originals)? Foxic
Are you booting in 32 bit mode when you boot from the flash drive and 64 bit when booting from hard drive? Maybe the patched kexts are 32bit only. AeroShark
Just double checked: flash drive and hard drive are both booting 64-bit. Also, booting 32-bit from hard drive alone doesn't make the keyboard and mouse work...32-bit from flash drive still works tho. Any Idea if the glitchy mouse is kext related/fixable? Because I'd like to just use the random voodoops2 kext I found that seems to work except for the glitchy/jumpiness, and just forget all the weirdness from ApplePS2 and other kexts. AeroShark
From more experimenting I've found the most common (or possibly only) trigger for the random mouse jumps and clicking is the mouse pointer changing icons (i.e. from an arrow to a cursor or clicking finger thing). Really weird I know. . So if that gives anyone ideas to a possible cause please help me. AeroShark
Still can't figure out why my trackpad does this weird skipping and phantom clicking thing...hmmm i guess it's kindof a different issue now, maybe I should start a different thread for this? gvltd2002
I have exactly same problem with lion 10.7.3. Has this problem solved? I found only one version of VoodooPS2 worked. But 1 in 10 boot up it gives kernel panic. Also some FN keys are not working. sztupy
I'm having the same problem on an Acer 4755 notebook on Mountain Lion, installed via ######. Here is what's happening: 1. Running OSX from ###### flash drive, no /Extra/Extensions directory on HDD -> keyboard/mouse works fine 2. Running OSX from ###### flash drive, /Extra/Extensions directory is the same as on the ###### Flash Drive -> not working 3. Running OSX from Chimera from HDD, /Extra dir is the same as on the flash drive -> not working Any pointer in solving this would be fine (like where to start debugging). Links to alternative PS2 kexts are also appreciated.
