crazynewfie
I have a ATI 9200 and the resolution in OS 10.4.7 is stuck at 1024x768. I want it at 1280x1024. I know that many people have had this issue. I have read how to change it in Wiki but it did not work for me. It only works for 90 percent of the video cards and i'm one of the 10 I guess. Here is what I tried. I opened "com.apple.Boot.plist" then edited <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1280x1024x32</string to show my new settings and after that it would not even boot up anymore. I had to reinstall everything. Please help. Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/27418-changing-the-resolution/ Share on other sites
PolishOX
During boot press F8. In command prompt type: "Graphics - 1280x1024x32" Do it without the quotes. I've read this in 3-4 tutorials. Hope that helps. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/27418-changing-the-resolution/#findComment-186658 Share on other sites
crazynewfie
Thanks PolishOX. I'm almost there. I've done what you said but now I get "Out of Range 46.4 KHZ/87HZ" on my monitor. I guess the refresh rate is out of wack. I have also tried "Graphics - 1280x1024x32@60" and other rates with no luck. I want to make sure I can boot up like this first before I edit "com.apple.Boot.plist" file. I have also tried typing '-x "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32@60" with no luck. Is there some way to include the refresh rate? So close. Please help!! PolishOX
The # 60 - refresh rate in khz... Try a lower number like 45 - 59... You can also boot somehow to lowres mode but I am a noob so I am unsure how to do that... Perhaps Rammjet will know he seems to correct me when I'm wrong which is very helpful in becoming better at offering support... crazynewfie
Still trying. Used a lower number like 59 then 45 and even 30 and I still got the same monitor error "Out of Range 46.4 KHZ/87HZ". I'm still open to suggestions. Thanks for your help PolishOX! PolishOX
I'm pretty new to this whole thing but perhaps you should set it to the number the error is giving you: 46.6... If it's set to that # it can't possibly be OUT OF RANGE! BTW bro you're welcome for whatever help I can be...so far I haven't helped you at all... Try booting using this: F8 Then: -s This is single user mode and often times lets you get into OSX without problems...its almost like windows safe mode.
