I have installed a Lion guest on VMware Workstation 8,

but I think its performance is not good.

I tested its performance with iBench(http://ibench.sourceforge.net/),

and below is the scores:

----------------------------------------------------

Operating system: Mac OS X 10.7.2 (Build 11C26)

Model: VMware7,1

Processor: Intel® Core i3 CPU M 330 @ 2.13GHz

Frequency: 2.03 GHz

Total CPU number: 2

Physical CPU number: 1

Bus frequency: 100.0 MHz

Memory size: 2.00 GB

Memory type: 0 MHz DRAM

Compiled with: GCC 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5646)

Final result: 3.00

Partial result: 2.68

iBench_int test suite

Quick sorting: 7.41

Binary searching: 5.45

Bubble sorting: 2.06

Kruskal tree search: 5.36

MD5 hashing: 3.48

Maximum Common Divisor: 3.32

Blowfish cipher: 1.76

ZIP compression: 2.78

N Queens problem: 2.95

Integer factorization: 2.70

Partial result: 3.36

----------------------------------------------------

Before benchmark test, I have executed following steps:

1) Switch to Console view (View-> Console View)

2) Turn on VM thumbnails (F8)

3) Turn off VM thumbnails (F8 again)

4) Switch back to your view of choice and enjoy

And the atatch file is the .vmx file,

Can anyone figure out how to let me Lion guest run faster?

Thank U very much!

【Host OS Info】

Windowx 7 x64

RAM: 6G,DDR3,Max Bandwidth is PC3-10700 (667 MHz)

CPU: Intel Core i3 330M @ 2.13GHz

【Guest Lion Info】

Lion:10.7.2

RAM: 2G

try this

while lion is running in vmware workstation go to view -> customize click on Thumbnail Bar

to turn on thumbnail bar

then view -> customize click on Thumbnail Bar to switch it off

It doesn't make any sense why it'll speed up but I tested it, does have slight improvement

Also install the VMWare Tool it can be found in the vmware workstation 8, fusion 4 unlocker, run the darwin.iso in lion

Before benchmark test, I have executed following steps:

1) Switch to Console view (View-> Console View)

2) Turn on VM thumbnails (F8)

3) Turn off VM thumbnails (F8 again)

4) Switch back to your view of choice and enjoy

He already used the "thumbnail fix" before starting his tests...

  • 1 month later...

Run VMWare 8 on Linux (I am running on Ubuntu 11.10) is smoother and fasten than on Windows (I used to run it on Win7 Ultimate 64bit is lag while drag a window)

This my iBench result..
