Tried everything... Sapphire Radeon HD4830 wont work 10.6.8

I can get into OS X just fine and the os can see its a 4830... I just cant change my resolution to anything but 1024x768. Tried QE CI exotic/graphics enabler/ ati injection etc...but after that it boots and I just get a black screen and my monitor acts like its not connected.

Im connected via vga if that makes a difference. My 4830 has 1 vga, DVI and HDMI port on the back. I also tried a different monitor via DVI and it just said "out of range"

Nothing seems to be working and its driving me crazy.

"Tried everything" - more detailed please. I don't think, you've tried the proper method. Maybe i can help you. But i need to know what did you do (EXACTLY). Post your RadeonHD dump, bios dump (bcc9 tool).

Sorry I'm a very new at this and honestly dont know how to get what you said. Way over my head so I guess ill just give up.

I've pretty much just followed step by step what everyone has said to get this card working in about 100 different posts on the internet and none of it has worked.

Tried using graphics enabler then installing relevant Kext files along with the appropriate Qe/ci exotic patch for my os version then making sure my device id was properly put into My graphics plists like the legacyati4800 controller/atiradeonx2000 info.plist etc... Tried the patched framebuffers... even tried after all that to set resolution at boot and still cant get a picture. Only way I get one is with just graphics enabler on and nothing else.

Been working at this for about 3 days. If anyone has a step by step for this particular card I'd really appreciate it.

Also someone at some point had made EVOEnabler 4830 specifically for my card but all the links are dead and I cant track it down :(

At this point no matter what I do I either just get a black screen/ A "Video mode not supported" message on my monitor or a mostly black screen with white artifacting and garbage.

Now its just "Video mode not supported" I've tried booting into safe mode with -x but it still says the same thing. even doing -v "graphics mode" for the resolution and refresh rate i want isnt working. I have no idea what to do at this point. If I had the money I'd just get a video card thats more compatable but I dont :D

Anyone get this card to work at all?

The card does work under 10.6.8 as my 4850 which is just a different variant works fine under 10.6.8.

Well I figured that since others have gotten it to work. I was just wondering specifically what kexts were used and the method of installation etc... I just did a fresh install and tried using ##### and the ati 48xx series injector and patches... still getting video mode not supported on the monitor.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have one for the 4830 assuming you have a Sapphire like variant that has VGA-HDMI-DVI. It worked back on 10.6.3 there's a possibility it could still work for you on 10.6.8 as I've been reusing packages like so myself after each update to get back QE/CI but don't hold me to my word as I can't confirm this since I'm not using a 4830.

If you want to give it a shot the zip file here is for you.

Thanks a lot ;) I'll give it a shot. All else fails a buddy of mine said he has a 8800gt he can give me if I cant get this to work. Since theres native driver support for that specific card and it was used in retail apple machines maybe Ill have better luck with it if this fails.

No problem, always glad to help out.

Well Now Im getting "Not loading kext ati4800controller" errors on boot up and after that its hanging on "NTFS Volume Name 3.1"

This is after following the instructions in that package but substituting the netkas for the one current for my os version.

Dont know what to do now. Oh well. *Sigh*

I am using Sapphire 4830 VGA-DVI-HDMI, and I am currently on 10.6.7 retail.

Attached are files that I am using, you can give it a try. Just install all of them using kext helper.

10.6.7_Sapphire_4830.zip

ive had issues with graphics and wireless and sound (pci devices) in 10.6.8 turned out to be incomplete smbios.plist and dsdt needs _UID under the Device (PCI0).

mainly make sure smbios.plist has full info

Finally I upgrade my OS from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8. My 4830 work good after installing the QE_CI_Exotic patch.

Attached are the patch and kexts after patch from my system, hope you can find it work.

QE_CI_Exotic patch for 10.6.8.pkg.zip
