Hello,

I recently tried to install SL (via iATKOS S3 v2) on my Dell Vostro 3450, and it resulted in a kernel panic from the installer when booting it.

Here are the specs :

Intel Core i5 2410M

6GB DDR3

Intel HD 3000 + AMD HD6630M (hybrid graphics)

Intel HM67 chipset

The rest is quite normal stuff, so it should be supported.

Any idea on how to boot the install disc at least ?

Thanks.

How to inject that kext into the iATKOS ISO ?

And also, that's strange, I only have 4 logical CPUs, including 2 physical, and still it detects 8 of those.

Is it a problem with latest generation Sandy Bridge processors ?

Seems a quite complex and long method of installation, moreover, it requires installing SL. My problem is that I can't even boot the installer of SL, it kernel panics while loading :/

have you tried using tonymacx86's ##### with a retail DVD of Snow Leopard?

Nope, didn't try that option, I only tried with the iATKOS DVD, thought it'd be a better alternative.

I guess I'm gonna try that then.

Just one question : I must not break my existing install of Win7, with #####, will it allow me to install it on a MBR-based disk alongside my existing Win7 + Debian ?

The retail snow leopard install disk will only install on a GPT formatted disk. That's why in my guide I have it install on an external GPT formatted drive and then copy it over to the MBR formatted internal drive.

But before you try that, you might want to just test if you can boot with ##### and get the installer running without a kernel panic. If it does, then it might be worth the effort with the rest of the guide.

Another way of installing on MBR is by restoring the installer disk to a usb drive or writeable sparsefile and modify the osinstall files to allow it to install to a MBR formatted drive. Search this site for osinstall and mbr for guides on how to do that.

i dont do hybrid.. too much problems eventually.

u can use a 8 gb usb instead of dual layer and install chameleon2, fakesmc.kext and dsdt.aml moded to it and boot it.

to do it. the 10.6.3 retail dmg is restored with disk utility to GUID hfs journaled formated usb.

check the box to erase drive. (in restore tab)

Looks like a way better idea, I actually have a 8GB usb key and it works to boot on it (moreover, it's pretty fast so).

LatinMcG, btw, do you really think it's worth to use a retail image instead of an iso like iATKOS (if this one doesn't work) ?

the only time i recommend a distro is to make a bootable usb for retail install= yes use retail.

with dsdt.aml for that model board modified for mac in /Extra and fakesmc.kext in /Extra/Extensions and possibly nullcpupm.kext also if needed

btw on dells usualy hdd can be added. buy second hdd caddy and a second hdd. (more reliable than having to fix boot sector monthly)

Hm well, I'll try that when I'll have the time and also when I won't need my laptop for everyday use (holidays for eg)...

The thing I'm also afraid of is autonomy of the battery, I have a 9 cells on it that takes easily 8+ hours of work with a full charge under Windows7, but under Linux (Debian Squeeze), it lasts approx. 4 hours...

Just hope it's better on MacOS.

Update : Used iATKOS L2 (Lion 10.7.2) and it works. Just one point, the AMD HD6630m is not recognized (causes system not to boot) and I'm looking to force MacOS to use the HD3000 inside my i5, any ideas ?

I have same model with you and install iatkos L2. HD6630 not yet support on mac I think. :) i managed to boot mac os x lion. What i did was after finish install iatkos L2 then reboot it but make sure you insert rBoot LE cd then from the boot menu chose your mac osx with/without -v then i run ##### 4.1.0: Lion Edition.. install #####, systems utilities, bootloader & etc etc.. after that reboot. reboot without rBoot LE cd. Good luck!

Did the same, Installed L2, rebooted, modified smbios.plist through windows (or via terminal on L2's disc) to a MacBook Pro 8,2's one, then it booted, had to install PS/2 kext to have keyboard / trackpad (without multitouch though, acts as a mouse, if you have better, just let me know, because I tried the other driver around, and it doesn't work at all, even if it loads).

Wifi (Intel 1030) doesn't work, had to buy a wifi dongle (TRENDnet TEW-648UBM, they have drivers for MacOS, just install the ones for SL, they work under Lion).

The big problem is the battery, 4h at most with my 9cells... :/

I'm pretty sure it's because the 6630m is still working, even while being disabled.

My point is, I don't want it to be even activated. My HD3000 runs, and runs smoothly enough for what I need under MacOS, and moreover it's energy efficient, so.

Do you know how to disable it (I mean, the chip not to be powered at all) ?

On a side note, did anyone succeeded to have multitouch trackpad working?

@OtaK do you have any problem on waking up your notebook? I have problem with that. It can sleep but it can't wake up. I have to force shutdown.

Same with me, and SleepEnabler kext provokes KP at boot

Solution is to always shut down, not a problem, it shuts down in ~5s, and boots in 15

i manage to fixed this. I download SleepEnabler kext @ kexts . Wake up using power button working good.

I just noticed another problem, I can't have any video playback, it gives me awful pink artifacts on the video and then I'm getting tearing on the whole screen.

I have no problem on video playback. Im using vlc . Anyway have you try to update ##### 4.2? Now both display HD3000 & Radeon HD are working and running..
