Aaron Lim
Hi everyone, Hope somebody can help me out here. I have been running my hackintosh with Snow Leopard for almost 8 months, and recently decided to upgrade to Lion. Everything runs smoothly after the upgrade to Lion, except when I plug in a SATA 6GB hard drive to the SATA 6GB port of my motherboard. When I do that, the system takes ages to start up, and when it does, sometimes my hard drive can be detected by Lion, sometimes it can't. Even when it is detected, I cannot access it, the system continues trying to read it indefinitely with no results. During startup, the bios does detect that the hard drive is SATA 6GB compatible. However, when I plug the SATA 6GB hard drive to a SATA 3GB port of my motherboard, everything runs perfectly. Is there something I have to do to enable the support of SATA 6GB by Lion? I'm using the Asus P7P55D-E-PRO motherboard, which uses the Marvell controller for SATA 6GB. The hard drive used is WD Caviar Green 2TB 64MB 7200RPM. Any help is very very much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/269212-issues-with-lion-sata-6gb-hard-drive/ Share on other sites
Noam AA
you somehow answered your own question first! there isn't a 6GB/s SATA support on a mac now second thing is "However, when I plug the SATA 6GB hard drive to a SATA 3GB port of my motherboard, everything runs perfectly." this defiantly answering your own question, as you see, if you can load the drive just fine on 3GB/s data then of course that means it can be highly expected it's hardware side, and even if it does recognized by the system it unstable... (don't forget mac don't have Marvel SATA) just make sure you use 3GB Sata connection and NOT the others (if you wan't 6GB connection so badly install windows...) Aaron Lim
Ok i managed to get it to work. All i had to do was to update my bios to the latest firmware. System Information is showing both my sata 3 hard drives with Negotiated Link Speed of 6gb/s. Tested reading and writing on both drives and it works perfectly. Thanks Noam for your response.
