Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Thread

every problem you guyz are having with your hard disk is related to ICH8, THIS ISNT REALLY A COMPATIBLE MOBO.

without OC im running now at 133.33 xbench result (with hard disk), i paste it here for more info:

As you can see the hard Disk work as they supposed to...

It's already been pointed out that the problem is the chipset. I'm not trying to be rude but... Your posting 945 stuff in this thread is completely useless to us with 965 hardware, and no one has recommended anyone go buy 965 parts. And I won't unless the HD issue's get sorted out.

What kind of OC can you get on your 945 board? I know sheepdog could barely run an 805 @ stock speeds on a 945 board.

Ok, thedguy, I'm trying to edit the AppleVIAATA.kext and AppleAHCIPort.kext Info.plist's and I'm not being successful. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are we meant to be using the JMB363 Device and Vendor ID's in the files? It is JMB363, right?

I am willing to edit files, I just need to be told how to do it :P

Yep the 363 is our chip.

At this point i don't think that it really matters to get this thing working. When i upgraded i knew that it would be very hard to get a decent machine that is also osx compatible, but i didn't really care because with leopard version coming soon i get the feeling that all this will be history, i mean we already have old kernel files, it's coming to an end.

Hmm..

I just ordered this board, and plan (hope) to build a dual boot system,

but my plan was to place two 250 gb disks mirrored/raid-1 on gigabytte SATA controller,

And a sata dvd-rw on ICH8 controller..

does anyone know will this work to install/run osx?

Gigabyte's SATA controller doesn't work in any OS but windows ATM.

Beyond that, the osx doesn't seem to like ICH8 to much as hd access speeds are horribly slow in osx.

If you want to run osx, avoid this board, or anything else 965.

I guess we are like Frankstein trying to put parts together that don't belong but still somehow work.

ok what did you do?

I found http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=27202

Asus p5b ICH8 works for him, Unfortunately what he tried I couldn't get to work and I have no idea what windows device that number has to be pulled from.

Well, I edited AppleAHCIPort.kext with a few extra Vendor and Dev ID numbers thrown in (JMB363 and JMB360). I also renamed the part in the AppleAHCIPort.kext's Info.plist wherever it says ICH7, I replaced with ICH8...

I can copy and paste the text from each plist if you want...

yes please.

Did you get anything more than just it showing up as ICH8 though?

Like can you get it to run with sata native mode turned out?

Will do... gimme a minute - need to switch to OSx86.

Well, as I said, I'm getting there lol... I can now run it in IDE mode, with SATA 0-3 disabled. When I try to run in AHCI, it stops with the message:

JMB0: family specific matching failed

JMB0: family specific matching failed

Interesting...

Are u trying to get drives to work off the gigabyte raid?

I haven't bothered to mess with that yet (just got my board back today), been hoping to get the ICH8 to work at full speed.

edit: thanx

No problem...

I can try it with RAID if you want. Are you suggesting I put the SATA cables into the purple ports instead of the yellow ones?

Oh, no. I thought that might be what your doing.

Diego... in osx? The rest of us can't get anything to show up in OSX plugged into the purple ports.

What did you do? Exact settings, files you've edited anything... plz

Oh I also got an IDE-to-Sata converter for my dvd drive. Works great.

(Though for some reason on sheepdogs spare nforce4 board it locked that up no matter what OS it was).

Ive just got AHCI and SATA HD to work nativelly.

Just enable AHCI instead of IDE and plug sata cable to the purple sata slot in mobo.

HD Speed bossted. XBENCH now rates 125 instead 24.

Eh? Really?

Could you tell us what exactly you have done? What about SATA Native - Enabled or Disabled?

I hadnt edited anithing.

In bios put on AHCI. (peripheral settings or something alike)

sata port 0-3 (disabled).

Put your sata on the purple slot (thirdy sata pair, my slots in this case are purple).

RAID Doesnt work at all.

Take a look at this benchmarking. Its the bnest i could do with s3 + 6300 + NFORCE 6200+ Sata 7200 + 1gb corsair.

OK wtf?...

It just worked for me.

I took my HD that was running on the ICH8 chipset, plugged it into the purple gigabyte/jmicron port, set the "Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode" to "AHCI" and rebooted.

How the hell did the rest of us miss this? I wonder why the SATA section works but not the IDE.

Diego, Thanks for your post... Now to run Xbench

OK ran Xbench. My system is a bit hampered at the moment (waiting on my 2gigs of ram), but I got a 131 out of it. Much better than the 49 I had before.
