kykin
my question is basically asked in the description, but for sake of clarification, i shall ask it again: after converting marklar-tiger.dmg to .iso (and earlier when i downloaded the .dmg) i noticed that i didn't have an md5 to check with the summer. does this mean i did something wrong, or am i screwing up the whole checksum process... thanks in advance if anyone can help out. acerfun
my question is basically asked in the description, but for sake of clarification, i shall ask it again: after converting marklar-tiger.dmg to .iso (and earlier when i downloaded the .dmg) i noticed that i didn't have an md5 to check with the summer. does this mean i did something wrong, or am i screwing up the whole checksum process... thanks in advance if anyone can help out. Hi, There is a very nice READ ME file... what is for read.... "Ok, moving on. Get the latest UltraISO, install it, run it, choose Tools - Convert. Locate the .dmg file and choose ISO as the format, click Convert and wait a few minutes (typically) for the conversion to be done. UltraISO will alert you when it's finished, so click Return and close UltraISO. Now we need to verify the checksum of that .iso file you just created (yes more checksums). Check the Marklar-Tiger.iso file against the following information. The md5 checksum for the Marklar-Tiger.iso file is: e78fe52e30a1f8c5b29d4b7932a16c5e and the filesize is: 4,293,001,216 bytes What do you do if that doesn't match your .iso checksum? Well, in my first experience doing this with the test3 release, I had to convert the .dmg file to an .iso file 4 times - you read right, 4 times - before finally getting the proper checksum on the 5th try. I know it sounds ridiculous, but consider the conversion process is taking roughly 18-20 billion bits of data and converting it to 32-36 billion bits of data and if just one bit is out of whack the whole thing is useless. Why this "bit loss" happens sometimes is beyond me, so don't ask for an explanation. All I know is that I myself had to convert the .dmg to .iso 5 times before I got the winner. If you simply cannot get the proper checksum/filesize matching, your original .dmg is most likely corrupt in some fashion, sorry. Once you get the proper ISO checksum matched, then it's time to do the actual patching." kykin
yeah, i have that exact guide printed and in fact sitting here on my desk beside my computer. i suppose i should further describe my problem. to my understanding until this point, the only way to check the checksums is to open any provided .md5 file with md5summer.exe. When i downloaded the .dmg there was no md5 file that accompanied it. now, is there some trick to working md5summer into viewing a checksum that isn't in a .md5 file, or is the .md5 the only way to view the checksum for its respective file? basically, --where do i find the md5 information for the iso that i created?-- thanks again, sorry i'm such a n00b. I am sure you figured out by now, but just run md5summer.exe, choose the folder then the file and add and then create. kykin
i decided to do some research on md5's, most specifically how they work and what exactly they do. i then figured out that if two files contain the same exact content and bit sequence, they should have the same checksum. so i took a chance and created a md5 file for the iso i made and it came out to exactly what the tutorial said it should be. slightly post-revelation, i came back here to post that i had figured it out and found that someone had answered my previous post verbatim to what i did. so now that i should have a working copy of the DVD, i would like to thank you guys (acerfun and thrunner) for helping me through this brainfart of a moment. i'll post what i can if i can get osx86 to work on my laptop, in case someone has a similar model. thanks again guys.
