jackes
Hi, finally I make 10.6.8 work in my system. Since it takes a lot of efforts, I really wanna make a backup on it. How can I burn such DVD so I can use it to reinstall in case something goes wrong in the future, instead of going through every step again? thanks! goodguess
Can you use Carbon Copy Cloner maybe? I am using it frequently with a second sATA or USB drive. With such a second drive you could let Disk Utility make a DMG of your backup installation and burn it to DVD, if you wish. The cloned disk would be preferable, as it can be bootable if you run ##### on it after CCC has finished. stephensaw
Yeah, Carbon Copy Cloner is great, I cloned my working Snow Leopard and Lion with it and it works great, didn't do anything special to the backed up image. smartie77
Yeah, Carbon Copy Cloner is great, I cloned my working Snow Leopard and Lion with it and it works great, didn't do anything special to the backed up image. I also vote for CCC. This can save your ( digital ) life. copy ccc to your /application folder, launch it and clone the HDD with OSX to a ( mac partitioned ) external usb ( thumdrive/hdd/ second partition .. as long as it has enough space and is hfs+ it does not matter ) . To be on the extra safe side I install afterwards chameleon boot loader also to the cloned drive, so that it is definitely bootable. Now if the emergency case comes, you plug in that external drive and press your machines BIOS boot sequence key ( f2,f11,f12 etc for your machine ) - select that external drive, boot from it and you will find yourself in the cloned OSX. Again you can then use the ccc from the /Application folder ( it is there because it is also cloned, naturally ) and this time clone the external to the internal.. re-install chameleon, now of course to the internal. and back again in your OSX then. It is absolutely simple and just works. You spare yourself the updates from Apple , just update OSX and the apps to the latest versions, make your clone and this is the version you will get back. No combo updating anymore , no kexts to exchange - you are right back where it was when it worked.. This works with Leo,Snow and Lion. In fact you can make many partitions and have even clones of different OSX versions on each. I use it to have working copies of Snow 10.6.8, Lion 10.7.1 and Lion beta. So I can boot into whatever I want to test or whatever of these I want back on my Laptop. The latest CCC has some advanced options, to exclude stuff you don't want to be cloned, or if you want to make incremental clones ( changing only on target what has changed on the source , or only update certain directories, for example your personal user folders, etc.. ) It is freeware! Bombich Software makes it, just google for it. it is a must have for anyone ( not only hackintoshers ) using OSX.
