Hangs during install

I get the following errors when trying to install from the Generic DVD:

 

unable to mount /dev/disk0s1 (status code 0x00000047)

 

bunch of scrolling crashdumps.

I'm fairly certain this DVD is good, a friend installed on to his Centrino laptop without any issues. My hardware is the following:

 

P4 3.0 Northwood (no SSE3) HT off

Abit AI7 (865 chipset, ICH5)

512 DDR

80 GB PATA WD HDD

NVidia 5700 Ultra 128 MB AGP

Hauppauge TV tuner (dont expect this to work, dont want it to, its installed though)

 

I tried using a different DVD-ROM and different IDE cables, different channels. I'm kinda clueless here, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
