shoobirdy
Hiya Hoping someone might be able to help (who doesn't wonder that!). So basically after not using OSX for the last 6 months (mainly because of having to use a USB dongle for wifi) the release of Lion made me want to switch back again. I was running 10.6.7 and completely forgot that I was about to be an idiot and started to software update to 10.6.8. So that all "went ok" until startup and now it just hangs on the apple logo screen. My knowledge since I installed OSX has pretty much disappeared but I'll try to give you what I know and attach some pics to help explain :-) I'm running vanilla OSX originally from the 10.6.3 disc on an Acer 6930g. It's always been stable whilst running it and most stuff works with the exception of ethernet and wifi (hence the dongle). I used Empire EFI 1.08 to boot and MyHack to add stuff IIRC. Anyways, I remember last time I updated sleepenabler.kext gave me trouble and reading nawcom's blog it seems the same for 10.6.8? I couldn't remember what kexts I had added so I used Ubuntu to access my OSX hdd to view what was in my extensions and extra folder (I think those ones are correct at least). I've attached a couple of photos showing the ones that I added (to my knowledge) in the hope that someone can help me track the conflict (I'm wondering about the legacy kernel since that was also on nawcom's blog). With regard to solving the problem...is there any way I can "inject" the required kexts onto my hdd without booting into osx? Maybe using Ubuntu or something? I wonder if I can boot Empire EFI > retail disk and use terminal from there but I wouldn't know where to start with the codes of how to actually get the kexts "delivered". Sorry, pain in the ass I know, but hopefully someone can point me in the right directions Thanks EDIT: Just added the verbose mode screenie. Basically single user mode, ignore caches mode (-k?) and single user mode all give this result. Seems to stop after mentioning Fake SMC or RTC so I'm guessing they could be the problem? Foxic
Use MacDrive 8 from windows to update any kexts you need, but this seems to be related to RTC (real time clock). Is the time and date set correctly in the BIOS, also is sleep set to (S3)? You could try swapping AppleACPIPlatform.kext and IOPCIFamily.kext in S/L/E for the ones used in 10.6.7. That worked for alot of people, myself included.

Thanks for the reply Well my BIOS clock is set to the correct time. But I remember now that I always had the problem that when I booted into OSX and then back into windows the time would go back by an hour...or maybe forward. I never knew the problem for this. Since then I've moved to New Zealand so my time zone has changed considerably(!) which I changed in windows but never in OSX. I don't know if that could have any bearing at all. With regard to sleep set to (S3), I can't find any option for anything like that in BIOS, unless I'm misunderstanding you completely MacDrive 8 won't install on my computer for some reason, just comes up with the setup.exe loading and then exits out. I though maybe it's because I use Win7 HP 64bit but according to the MediaFour website ver8 is compatible with 64 bit systems. Oh and one other point I forgot to mention...Win7 and Mac OSX are installed on separate hard drives on my comp. I don't know if that's relevant at all lol! sid.
You need to backup your graphics drivers from 10.6.7 if you're using an ATI card like I am.. plus sleepenabler.kext.. Look for SleepenablerNG.kext.. that one kext works with all versions of 10.6.x ... then probably a IOPCIFamily fix.. you know you should post your hardware config.. I attached a screenie of my system specs in 1st post Geforce 9600m GT 1GB. I replaced all the kexts suggested in the 2nd post by hacking the Macdrive installation a bit lol. Then I was still not booting and tracked that down to PdaNet which I previously had installed. The I was still not booting so removed the NVDarwin.kext I was using to get my card supported. After that I managed to get booted and all seemed well. Then I tried to download Lion and got the app store problem I've tried editing my boot plist and stuff but now getting the RTC problem again. Can't really be bothered to do any more this weekend....wasted a whole day on this and the girlfriend is moaning lol! Thanks for your input anyway
sid.
Yea it takes a lotta effort to get hackintosh working as it should on PC.. I myself would have atleast reinstalled the OS about 20-25 times and downloaded stuff worth 30gigs.. Just yesterday I resolved all my issues and now my installation is perfect (i guess ) ... Neways, the app store problem can be resolved by changing a few settings in spotlight in system prefs.. i read that here on the forums somewhere. I suggest that if you can get the 10.6.8 installation workin perfectly then stick to it. Dont upgrade to lion just yet.. have a look at this.. http://lifehacker.com/5822894/should-i-upg...o-mac-os-x-lion
shoobirdy
thanks for your reply as well. Well yeah I remember it took me about 2 weeks the first time round just to get to 10.6.6 and stable. I was off work with food poisoning at the time so literally started from scratch...not knowing anything (not that I profess to know much more now lol!) Well as it stands I've given up, I figure I messed it up somehow, after trying the app store fixes I ended up with a non loading GUI (stuck at DSMOS). I did a fresh install back to 10.6.3 and didn't update and I've ended up with the exact same problem. In both cases I used the latest version of ##### and Mulitbeast as bootloader and postinstallation tweaks (with ##### I only used the easydsdt option). Previously I was just using MyHack. The only thing I can think that's changing is that it's now loading the 64bit kernel whereas I'm sure before it was running 32bit, I don't know if ##### or ##### somehow activate this or something. I was always using NVDarwin for my gfx before (geforce 9600m GT 1GB) which worked fine up until I tried this. I've looked around for some drivers to support this in 64bit but can't find any that work, including some tweaked version of NVenabler and NVinject. Tomorrow I'm gonna try a fresh install and just try sticking to myhack and see how far i can get
