can someone with the knowledge of how to reconfigure xnu do me a favor and re-enable Rosetta ?

It seems easy:

Apple removed the kernel reference to the exec translate and now points /usr/libexec/oah calls to "RosettaNongrata", a simple exec that will tell you ppc is dead.

In Snows kernel instead the /usr/libexec/oah/translate application was launched and that was set via sysctl to associate powerpc with it to open..

Please look at this screenshot - Snow and Lion mach_kernel compared.

Even if rosetta seems not important for you here, believe me it is for others.

The re-enabled kernel plus a handful files from Snow would be all it needs I think :

Yep. Even my old samsung laser driver installer is ppc, although driver is intel code.

AppleWorks etc. old timers, they are important for long-term and prolonged apple user.

and don't forget all the games that are dead with lion .. :)

anyway.. I am sure there is a way around.. time will tell.

I'm going to edit the XNU source and make a fix for all HP Core i systems with the APIC kernel panic so we HP users can use all 4 cores instead of booting using CPUS=1. This will save finding the right bootloader with the auto patcher all the time.

@tle88 : my old Samsung printer works fine under Lion.

I installed Foomatic-rip+Ghostscript+Samsung-gdi for Mac OsX

www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosxsamsung-gdi

With a minor customization to use european A4 paper without margin problem :

I had to add "-sPAPERSIZE=a4" on the gs command in the printer ppd file in /Library/Printers/PPDs/Content/Resources/en.lproj.

I tried Splix with success, without paper size problem, but the rendering was poor (few gray levels).

Foomatic-rip gives best results.
