Hello,

thanks to all of those of you who helped me so much with all the information and files I already read and used to get my system working at all.

Still I do have huge problems with my graphics device. It's a GeForce Go 7900 GS which is supported according to everything I read. What I've done so far is:

- copied GeForce.kext, NVDANV40Hal.kext and NVDAResman.kext to my document folder

- added the string (0x029810de&0xfff0ffff) to the Info.Plist in GeForce.kext, NVDANV40Hal.kext and NVDAResman.kext using terminal with sudo-s and nano

- deleted GeForce.kext, NVDANV40Hal.kext, NVDANV50Hal.kext and NVDAResman.kext in /System/Library/Extensions/

- installed the modifiedGeForce.kext, NVDANV40Hal.kext and NVDAResman.kext using Kext Helper b7

- repaired permissons with disk utility

- restarted without any changes

- installed NVinject.kext, Natit.kext and NVEnabler 64.kext as downloaded using Kext Helper b7

- repaired permissons with disk utility

- restarted without any changes

My Graphics device is show as follows in system profiler:

ATI Radeon HD 4890:

Chipsatz-Modell: ATI Radeon HD 4890

Typ: GPU

Bus: PCIe

Steckplatz: Slot-1

PCIe-Lane-Breite: x16

Funny as it definitely is a GeForce Go 7900 GS which worked under Leopard quite fine.

Please let me know whether I've forgotten something or did something wrong. I'm not that kind of an expert so possibly I overread something or just didn't know something which I had to do additionally?

Thanks for checking this out!

Thank you for the response. I'm going to check it latest during next weekend as I'm kinda short of time atm.

I have the feeling that my problem lies more in the way I modified/installed the kexts as really nothing happened after changing them. although I did type "touch /.../extensions" after modifying the info.plists with sudo -s and nano and repaired permissions afterwards.Maybe I forgot something or did something wrong? Well. First of all I'll try the Cuda drivers than.

P.S. I installed SL by using a chameleon boot disk and installed 10.6 directly from retail DVD. I didn't upgrade the Mac OS itself so far as the only thing I found yet was the combined 10.6.8-Update by Apple. My aim is at least to get 10.6.2 working ('cos of the App store thingy).

If you want to upgrade to 10.6.8, what I did was download 10.6.8 update combo. Before I installed it I copy my /extra and System/Library/Extensions and /mach_kernel to desktop and then did upgrade and (Before reboot) then deleted all new version of what I copy to desktop and then copy what I had on desktop back and then use Kext Utility to repair permissions and everything ran smoothly.

Im not sure if that works for everyone but works great for me.

Amd Athlon 64 +3500

I would try Cuda driver for mac, Google it.

It works great with Geforce cards

Very bad advice, for two reasons:

Geforce 7 series cards don't speak CUDA, installing the CUDA drivers will not do anything.

CUDA drivers will not do anything if the video card is not already working and has drivers loaded for it.

Well the problem still isn't solved for me. :/ I tried some reinstalls, other/new kexts and so on.

Thing is that my SL simply doesn't like to be booted in 32bit mode from all what I experienced so far. In normal (64bit) mode my graphics device is shown as that ATI Radeon which it isn't.

Starting in 32bit (arch=i386) ends in a black screen. Although the system behind is working (you can press the power button and enter which means shutdown and the system - shuts down).

As I started installing via chameleon boot-disk and than from retail SL I tried iATKOS S3 v2 as well in the hope of a workaround. But that leads straight into the mentioned black screen. Obviously iATKOS starts in 32bit mode which - why ever - won't make my screen show anything.

Installing Leopard is no problem at all (in regards of graphics I mean). The device is recognised out of the box (kallyway's version with fixed files right from the start). So I thought to be smart and copied all the nvidia-related kexts (with nvinjectgo) from 10.5 and tried to install them on 10.6. No effect: booting 64bit mode I still have the ATO Radeon without QE and in 1024, booting in 32bit ends in a black screen as above.

Has anyone an idea how I possibly can get my Geforce Go 7900 GS work under SL in 32bit or even 64bit mode?

Hopefully I soon have the funds for buying a real Mac, but doesn't look like that atm :/

Got it kinda solved with ##### legacy CD and SL Retail DvD.

Now I have to check how to get my sleep, the second core and the 10.6.8 Update running. But I think I'll get enough information about that in the topics right here. Thanks to Time Machine I have unlimited tries -_-

Thanks to all of you who tried to help me! Nice and helpful community here. Like that (especially as I'm no pro and need advice from experienced people every now and than).
