makasin
I have a 8 GB partition where I currently have OSX.4.6 but I want to install Vista instead because OSX doesnt work with my intel wireless card (notebook) so it makes the OS pretty useless if I dont have any sort of connection. Could I install Vista on this image? I have another 1.86GB image (reformatted from restore image) and a external drive. Is this enough space for just the OS and like firefox or something? I can install everything else on other partitions. br0adband
Realistically speaking, whenever you're dealing with beta software, upgrading is typically not a good idea. A nice clean install of each new version is the best possible solution, that way you never have issues with old files and old versions laying around. After doing this kind of software testing for 20 years or so, it's the one specific thing I always hold myself to: never upgrade, it's just going to cause nightmares whenever you do. At least on Windows machines. bb Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26191-how-much-space-is-required-for-vista-at-minimum/#findComment-177665 Share on other sites

lord_muad_dib
off course. in a production environment you r a fool if you do such a thing but it's just a beta.. and after all you'll reupgrade it to rc1 in few days. so there's no need to waste time Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26191-how-much-space-is-required-for-vista-at-minimum/#findComment-177671 Share on other sites

But i have a 10 gb partition on my macbook and that is cutting it close Lies? if you were experienced enough to know what "real world operations" and advertising is, maybe would take you word for it. I guess you would believe MS if they told you 256mb memory is enough to Vista. I upgraded from beta 2 to the current version, office 2007 beta to the current version. Those are real world operations and the application is designed to do just that. That's what MS is looking for and that's the feedback I provide them. Any wannabe geek can install from scratch. Btw, i installed from deamontools under XP and dumped it on the second primary partition. I know enough not to waste my time burning a disk. So if you think 16gig is still not enough using the way I installed, speak up. Minimum install takes at least 7gig and that's with only 300mb virtual memory on the Vista drive and 500mb virt memory on the XP drive. I also deleted the hibe file freeing ~1.2gig. Add Office 2003 MSOcache (~300mb) or Office 2007 (~700mb) MSOCache plus 3rd party applications and system restore files, that eats eats up past 7gig. As max said, try upgrading with your 7gig minimum requirement. Bartboy919
Insalling windows from scratch, I think, Is much better for the operating system because it has alot of room for virtual memory Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26191-how-much-space-is-required-for-vista-at-minimum/#findComment-183572 Share on other sites
