Hello everyone!

I have an Acer Aspire 1690 Laptop which become a little useless since I use my Desktop PC for everything. Then I thought it could be a good choice to use my laptop for trying other OSs, maybe I can find a better one than Windows (don't misunderstand me: I love Windows!). I found then that there is a pc version of mac and I've decided to give it a try.

I'm using an iATKOS S3v2 DVD which I read on the web it should be working fine (there is also a YouTube video showing it at work) but it won't even make it to install! It correctly boots from DVD, I can format the hard drive, see system info and then I continue with the installation. Although, when I get to the installation process I get stunt at the "Installing" screen. The hard drive doesn't make any noise, the DVD unit seems to be sleeping without any activity and the only thing I can see is a walking blue bar (the only laptop message saying "I'm still alive" ). The funny thing though is that when I press the "Windows" menu the DVD starts reading again (loads the menu I think) and then stops. In the windows I got also to the installation log window, and I set it to show any message. It hangs at "Remote Install Assistant found at 1024:(null)". I haven't selected any other packages than the default ones, the installation language is Italian, but I tried also with English and others and none made any difference.

I know that this Laptop isn't one of the newest ones though, I really want to try a mac os. I saw the new upcoming MaBooks with Lion and seemed to me that it's very cool, but I'd like to see if I can have the softwares I'm used to, how they work, the personalization, I even want to learn using it so if I like it I'll buy a MacBook (seems really strange such thing in a osx86 forum, but I really mean it).

So I have come here to ask you what osx86 would make it to install and run on this Laptop? I also want one of the newest versions so I can see how Mac OS is nowadays, an old MacOS might be a bad choice so i think i could get started with Tiger or any higher version.

Next there are my HW specs (got them using the system information program from the iATKOS installation DVD), I hope they'll help you pointing me the right way.
