I've managed to get all the way to the installer but it seems to fail halfway into the actual installation due to a problem with Essentials.pkg. I've posted the installation log below:

http://pastebin.com/pB77nHYg

"{NSLocalizedFailureReason=FinishStreamCompressorQueue error, offset=2847022, type=BOMCopierFatalError, sourcePath=/System/Installation/Packages/Essentials.pkg, destinationPath=/Volumes/PENDRIVE/.OSInstallSandbox-tmp/Root}";"

What could be causing the extraction of Essentials.pkg to fail? Could it be because I am installing OS X to a flash drive? All help is appreciated :censored2:

My system: (ran vanilla SL with a few modified kexts fine)

Motherboard: P5E-VM HDMI

Cpu: Xeon 3350 (Core 2 quad 9450 clone)

GPU: Geforce GTX 560 Ti

EDIT: Looks like an 8GB flash drive can't hold the OSX install + temp install files that co-exist during the last few moments of the install process. Installing to a 16GB flash drive fixed the problem.
