BuXb
I wouldn't want to buy the Atheros miniPCI Express card with just 54 Mbps, that does not seem to be worth the expense. If you guys do not know of any 108 Mbps miniPCI express card I would go ahead and buy a hackintosh compatible 108 Mbps PCMCIA or USB WiFi card for my Laptop. Any hints & experience? Thanks, Bugs. solaar
I can't give you specifics about which mini PCI to get apart from the obvious Broadcom or Atheros based ones. What I can say though is that I had some horrible experiences with 108 mbps in the past until I completely disabled it on the router and went back to 54 (actually to good old RJ-45 95% of the time) That's about a year ago. Has 108 matured in the meantime? cheers sol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25447-any-minipci-express-card-with-108-mbps-working-with-hackintosh/#findComment-172328 Share on other sites
BuXb
I configured a 108 net in some friends' house about half a year ago (ground level + two stories + garden - it has been running there without any problem ever since. I do not remember anymore however which wifi cards I used, but I think Netgear - the DLS modem/ wifi router is a french model. Depending on the signal level the speed is automatically being reduced, anyway. Suser
108Mbits is a big joke. That speed is theoretical and achieved via data compression. In real life you might be happy to work with a transfer rate between 25 and 40 Mbits, even if your pc says 54 or 108 Mbits. Do some tests by copying data over the 108Mbits line and the same over a 100Mbits wired line, even with the pc next to th router in wireless. You'll see what I mean. As soon soon as there is one wall between the pc and the router you already loose 15% in most cases. Could that be one of the reasons why 108 is quite flaky (even when you're sitting right next to the router)? At least that's what I've experienced.
