austin516556616
After i boot my lion installation via the bootloader, it goes to a grey screen with the rainbow loading circle, and it stays like that. my motherboard is a gigabyte x58a-ud3r any idea? thanks! Dellmantt
Same as what you would do if you were booting Leopard or Snow - Boot verbose
austin516556616
Do you mean -v at the boot? Because i've already tried booting with -v, -x, and -usecache. Same thing
Dellmantt
Yes -v is verbose, -x is safe mode. -usecache is for booting with Chameleon with the patched boot file. Is that what you are trying? Not had any luck with that myself. i use the XPC boot loader. Are you trying to boot from an internal or external disk?
austin516556616
Well, i'm booting with -v, -x, and -usecache, with charmelon RC5 w/ netkas's Lion boot file. I tried #####, and XPC, but when i would try to boot it, i would get MBR START! and it would stay like that til no avail. So i guess my only choice would be charmelon.
Dellmantt
Did you use the XPC prepare tool? And most importantly did you copy the files to the flash disk via terminal?
austin516556616
Yeah I used the tools. But no luck. Still the MBR START! But are u talking about transfering the files to the installation usb or the bootloader usb. I didn't use the terminal to transfer any files at all. Dellmantt
I was talking about copying the files to the usb boot loader. Obviously you have not read what seems to be the main thread for 10.7 Lion install http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=249135 It is mentioned in the first few pages to copy the files via termini and not to drag & drop. I would suggest you copy to the installation via terminal as well using " sudo cp -R "
austin516556616
alright thanks for all your help. Do you think the problem with the grey screen could be caused by not using the terminal to transfer all the installation files over?
Dellmantt
Could be, but may be because of video card -BTW good idea if you listed your hardware in your signature. My advice would be to try the XPC again Format usb stick MS-DOS (FAT) Run http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&id=90062 unplug-replug usb stick copy files from http://www.mediafire.com/?3lca9nshgf1vvwy with terminal. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For Lion Installer- Mount mac_os_x_10_7_11a390 Show hidden files Mount BaseSystem.dmg Format an external drive MacOS Extended Journaled call it Lion Installer Restore BaseSystem.dmg (the image not the drive)(you need to scan for restore) to Lion Installer OR you can use Carbon Copy cloner to clone Mac OS X Base System to Lion Installer After restore navigate to Lion Installer/System/Installation and delete the folder called Packages Copy from "Mac OS X Install ESD the folder "Packages" to "Lion Installer/System/Installation" with terminal Copy any kexts you need for your system (FakeSMC (essential)>Depending what your current install is, probably in Extra/Extensions. Copy the kexts to LionInstaller/System/Library/Extensions with terminal. All copying w3ith terminal is done with "sudo cp -R" that way you don't need to fix permissions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hopefully you can now boot the Lion Installer with the XPC boot If you succeed you need to copy fake kext etc to the new install before it will boot I have found that XPC will boot an install on an external disk or an internal providing that the internal has a single partition. End of spoon feed.
austin516556616
I did everything you just posted, now when i try to boot off of the XPC, it just goes straight to a black screen and hangs there. i went back to using charmelon, and now i get a KP before i even reach the installation.. thanks for all your help.. Dellmantt
Sometimes XPC does hang for a while before it appears, at least you got past the MBR fault. You could try earlier versions of the xpc files I guess. I have neve got the Chameleon (rc3 or rc5) and patched boot to work no matter what I have tried. good luck BTW I did ask before. What system are you trying to install to
austin516556616
I will try to get XPC to work. I'm back to the whole grey screen with the loading. Here is my system.. Gigabyte X58A-UD3R 4GB 1600 DDR3 Patroit G Series Asus Nvidia GT 240 1TB HDD Split up into 3 Parts, Mac OSX, LION, & Storage 1 SSD w/ Windows 7 1BD Reader, 1 DVD/CD Sata Burner Everything work flawlessly with snow leopard using #####+#####. --------------------------------------------------------- Here is the screen - It comes up right after the bootloader. ---------------------------------------------------------
Dellmantt
You forgot CPU, I assume better than core 2 with that mother board. Would have thought that video card would have been alright. I use Nvidia 8400GS. Check the main thread, see what GPU others are using (that is why it is handy if people have their specs in the signature). My screen comes up black with that curser Dash before XPC loads. I would try different XPC files because it looks like you are close after not having the MBR fault. Here is an earlier one I found bootdisk.zip Oh you can try adding your DSDT to it if you have one.
austin516556616
I'm using a Intel i7 950 CPU. I'll try that version of XPC, and let you know.. thanks again,

Dellmantt
" I'm back to the whole grey screen with the loading." Happened for me, when FakeSMC not loaded! That would be the installer or the installed system. We are talking about a grey screen while trying to load XPC
austin516556616
So i finally got Lion installed. I ended up getting ##### to work. I had to disable the majority of the stuff in my bios. Sata3, Usb3 etc. Finally got to the installation screen, and installed. i am booted into Lion, but don't have full video support. I'm stuck with like 1024x1280. Dellmantt
Congratulations Under Snow leopard Chameleon was probably enabling your nvidia card. This is woking for me for my 8400GS. May work for you. Put it in S/L/E with kext Utility or Kext Wizard NVEnabler_64.kext.zip
austin516556616
Trying to update to DP2 w/ ##### 1.4a I keep getting a PCI Parsity Error! Dellmantt
I updated over a copy of DP1 no problems at all. Personally I find DP2 feels less snappy than dp1 and Outlook 2011 has a few spinning beach balls in dp2. Did you get your video working?
austin516556616
Yeah, i got the video working using the NV kext that you supplied. How did you go about updating to DP2? Did you go right over DP1? or a clean install.
Dellmantt
I copied over DP!. Have not tried a clean install yet.
