potfur
hi, first i'd like to say I was searching for some solutions but none was helpful. first my lappy's specs: Intel Core i5 430m [busratio=17 to make it stop rebooting] 4gb DDR3 Realtek ALC670 Mobility Radeon 5650 (I know it's work in progress, I have dumped bios if required, I'd like to test things and contribute but I need to have bootable system first) 17,3 inch 1600x900 native LG screen Intel HM55 chipset (but without support for Intel HD graphics from i5 in bios) so thats about it, now how it looks: I was able to install OS X SL 10.6.3 from my MacBook SL DVD using Empire boot cd (##### doesn't seem to work for me), it crashed at the very end, but after a restart it booted fine with empire boot cd. so i fired up system updater to dl and update to 10.6.6 and after restart it never booted again, I wasnt even able to make it work in safe mode, nothing. so - what did i do wrong? what to do to make ##### work (SL installer doesn't even start, just grey screen and nothing is happening)? how should i make the update to not brick that osx again? any help would be apreciated, if you need any more info i'l post it. oh one more thing - i can see that it is very wise to create DSDT table to make the system run as much vanilla as possible, but is there anywhere some clear howto on how to create valid dsdt table? there is a lot of info and discussion about that, but it's all very confusing. also i have Apple MacBook running 10.6.6 if that might be usefull somehow cheers! MariuszK
try to install clean 10.6.3 but from Retail DVD not MacBook. After reboot use iBootCD to run system again, update to 10.6.6 using combo update. Use ##### and install bootloader. After update to 10.6.6 do not restart - remove from System/Library/Extension ATI5000Controller.kext and then reboot System should be up and running. scousi
try to install clean 10.6.3 but from Retail DVD not MacBook. After reboot use iBootCD to run system again, update to 10.6.6 using combo update. Use ##### and install bootloader. After update to 10.6.6 do not restart - remove from System/Library/Extension ATI5000Controller.kext and then reboot System should be up and running. You have to remove *X3000* as well after 10.6.6. I have an Acer 3820TG with similar specs. I used #####, installed SL 10.6.3 retail, did a 10.6.4 combo update. Downloaded and installed 10.6.6 combo update, removed /S/L/E/*X3000* and ATI5000* (renamed actually). After that I had to install USB rollback from ##### to get my iPhone recognized by iTunes and Xcode. Rebuild the caches before re-booting with kext-utility. With #####, the kernel, extensions and plist files are actually in the Preboot.dmg image. Safari won't work with flash so you need to downgrade flash player to version 10.0.45.

stanko18
You can try using Nawcom's boot disk, works for me and I have Aspire 7740G although mine is i7, furthermore try using busratio=20. In addition @scousi how did you manage to fire the 5650 with GraphicsEnabler=Yes, I use a custom boot with Eulemur FB, my card is recognized but the screen goes black. I can VNC tho. I'm running in VESA mode (no QE/CI). To do that, I enabled discrete graphics in BIOS and deleted *X3000* and ATI5000* extensions, rebuild caches and reboot. stanko18
But did you manage to get native resolution?
ekwj
Hi OP, I had a similar problem to you. Managed to get 10.6.3 working, booted with the Nawcom Mod CD. After going through checcco's guide which is here, I also had the same problem as you, updated to 10.6.6 and did all the steps and it just wouldn't boot. Gets stuck in the grey Apple screen and the loading indicator just keeps on rotating. I am unable to boot in safe mode or verbose, haven't tried single user or ignore cache? I am able to boot via the Nawcom boot CD.
scousi
But did you manage to get native resolution? Yes. I have a 13.3 inch display. I'm getting 1366x768 native resolution. I don't recall having to do anything special to get it. It just worked. The display is actually quite nice.
stanko18
@ekwj - Do you have more than 4GB of ram? @scousi - That might be the difference, my resolution is 1600x900
