.ShadowFox
Hey. I acquired a dual 867MHz PowerMac G4. I wanted to upgrade the CPU to a dual 1.25 or dual 1Ghz. Would I have to worry about the system bus or FSB being incompatible with the new CPU?
andy
You need to buy a CPU with the correct bus speed. 166MHz is more common, but check your system profiler before you buy.
apple apple
Well, I believe you can install one of the better dual processors like the 1.42ghz one, but it wont run at 1.42ghz because your board runs at 133mhz rather than 166mhz. You could get a sonnet 1.6 or 1.8 ghz; upgrades starting at close to 300 on the interweb. I believe they will run at full speed regardless of what speed your board is. Oh also you may be able to overclock your 133mhz board to 166mhz, but it involves some soldering under the board.
