The Dell MiniPCI WLAN 1350 does NOT work.

Not sure if there are different versions of the 1350 MiniPCI WLAN, but I'm running my Dell Inspiron 6000 with it just fine. Airport works flawlessly after appending the following entry to the AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext:

<string>pci14e4,4320</string>

This is found in the IO80211Family.kext's Info.plist located at /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext/Contents/Info.plist

You'll have to chmod, chown and kextcache the /System/Library/Extensions folder and then repair permissions after reboot -- as always -- for it to get recognized.

Hope this helps...

Dell Inspiron 6000 Specs: Pentium M 1.73Ghz, 1GB RAM, Mobile Intel® 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family running at 1680x1050 with QE, Dell MiniPCI WLAN 1350 with Airport Support (Wireless LED working), Audio works, External Display Dongle, Hitachi 100GB 7200rpm... Runs sweet!

Forgot to mention: Running 10.4.5

I have three I have been trying to use with no success yet. The Belkin has the most promise as it identifies as a Realtek 8180. Realtek has beta drivers on their website, but the installer does not work. I am going to try manually installing, maybe that will do the trick. Anyone have any of these working?

Belkin F5d6020 ver 3.0 -identifies as Realtek 8180

orinoco Gold

Linksys WPC11 ver 3.0

I have one of those Asus USB things.

It's terrible!

It's Ralink 2500, but needs the replug patch and even then seems to disconnect 1/2 the time. Not to mention that USB software utility it uses, without a doubt the ugliest mac software/hardware combination to date.

Feels like I'm using pre XP Windows.

This card works without any patching if you are using Leopard and will give you wireless n speeds! I have been using it since the day Leo came out. D-Link DWA 547. No drivers to install, it works as airport.

Nice card. Kinda expensive though. Do you know which chipset it's based on? I'm trying to search for this info, but damn google and it's paid for hoisting... all im getting is no brains shopping results...

Hi, it's an Atheros with a device id of 0023. You will find that device id (168c23) in the IO80211Family.kext/Contents/Plugins/ atheros Airport kext, but I am not sure which chip it is without taking the top cover off the card. If I get a min, I will have a look.

Thanks for that. I did a bit of digging and found that its the AR5008 chipset. For the price it seems that you get a solid 802.11n card, but I think for less than half the price I may go for the Asus WL-138G (802.11g only) which is on the Broadcom chipset. I'll have to see what my budget can stretch to.

Hi, i'm just adding my recent good experience,

i also have a natively working wireless card under leopard! i used a tp-link pci wireless card wich is atheros based and only worked (as aiport) with the 802.11 kext from 10.4.8. I just crashed with the leopard driver and correct ids. I bought a mini-pci to pci adapter and used the mini-pci card i used with my first hack, a braodcom one (see my sig) and i tried a fresh install. And i just worked out of the box! you can buy it for 20$ or even less, and the adaptor is also very cheap. So maybe this broadcom chipset is a good option for a laptop or a desktop.

Talkin to myself... Well I did it on the cheap and bought the WL-138G V2. I'm not quite done with my Leopard install yet (gonna re-install another, better, closer to vanilla way than Kalyway 10.5.1), but this card works natively, and after changing my network settings and adding the MAC address to the ACL on my router everything was fine. Good card for < $20.
