What to do? Its been a long time since I built!

I don't know where to begin. I do a lot of soft synths.

Last years Mac Pro's 8 core are faster than the newer except on the memory front, then I saw a hack that was getting something like 549 with Xbench and a crazy number with Cinebench.

 

 

So I ask, how much would I save if I wanted to get the equvilant of a Mac Pro 2.93 8 core from 2009 and then over clock it.

 

Plus the last time I built, they didn't have any boot loaders that allowed for you to update your software. You had to boot to windows, get device info, put that into plist and kext files and just need advice on what to do.

 

I have a little momey aside but I don't want to buy a mac pro that is beaten by last years and even some iMacs beat them (Quad) and you can always get a Texas Instruments Firewire HUB, its just that I use a lot of soft sythngs which take a lot of FPU, from Storm Drum to Orchestra.

 

Any advice on builds or purchases appreciated and FWIW, APPLE IS OUT OF THE 2009 2.93 and those 8 cores go for almost 4 grand where a 2010 8 core is much less, so what does that tell you besides speed 2.4 compared to 2.9 is better and the hack I saw he had it up to 4.3 or something, 8 cores, so am looking for a hand holding session on how to build something like that, that will squash even the 12 cores if possible with 8 OC cores.

Thanks as I am trying to get the performance I saw of someone on youtube and they had it overclocked to 4.3 or something crazy and it was blazing. Not sure what motherboard, number of cores, ec-cetera.I'm looking to spen at least enough to get a 8 core 2.93 or 8 core i7 performance overclocked.
