i5-760, HD5770, P55A-UD3 - Sounds like a good plan?

Hello, I've recently decided to build my own hackintosh so i went out and chose some parts:

  • i5-760 2.8GHz quad core
  • 8GB RAM 1333 MHz DDR3 (2x4gb)
  • 1.5TB Sata2 7200RPM
  • ATI Radeon 5770 1GB DDR5
  • 600W Power Supply
  • Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3

So those are the main specs of got so far. I dont see a problem with the ram or hard drive but im wondering a few questions:

  1. Is the power supply at 600W enough for all this?
  2. Will the built in devices of the P55A-UD3 work correctly like sound, ethernet and usb?
  3. The HD5770 is used in the current Mac Pros, so im guessing that it is fully supported?
  4. I understand that 10.6.4 brings support for all i3,i5 and i7 processors so my i5-760 would be fine?

Thanks for your time,

Kris

Been thinking of upgrading to something like this myself recently.

So those are the main specs of got so far. I dont see a problem with the ram or hard drive but im wondering a few questions:

Is the power supply at 600W enough for all this?

May want to go with about a 750w just to be safe when I checked the Extreme Power Supply calculator for my setup it was saying around 550w with a reasonable load on it for my setup I was thinking of so a little bigger is always better for some extra headroom for expansion/high load on it. You really want to not cheap out on this as the power supply is the most important part of the system, you want something with Active PFC, 80+ certified and preferably with one big power rail ~60A so you have enough power to run everything in the machine. From a quality brand name manufacturer like Corsair, Seasonic, Enermax, Antec...

Will the built in devices of the P55A-UD3 work correctly like sound, ethernet and usb?

For the sound you will need to make a DSDT.aml file with the pin layout you need to get it going along with the VoodoHDA.kext an alternative to this can be an old SB Audigy/Live card and the kX audio driver that can be found on this site it works great. I link to a massive thread on this below with it and other modifications that should be made below, it says X58 board in the title but it is the same for P55 based ones. For the ethernet you need to install a driver as the version of the realtek card that is on these boards is not supported in SL like the earlier ones. USB 2 will work out of box the USB 3.0 can be supported by the new Lacie driver that has been modified by modbin which I also link to below.

The HD5770 is used in the current Mac Pros, so im guessing that it is fully supported?

You need modified Chameleon boot file to have it used I link to another massive thread on this card below as well.

I understand that 10.6.4 brings support for all i3,i5 and i7 processors so my i5-760 would be fine?

Yes you are good there no mods needed except in your DSDT.aml to get the power saving features working.

Thanks for your time,

Kris

Your welcome.
