Hi people,

Before I begin I must say I am just a guy trying to get a hackintosh system for the 1st time. So there are some important gaps in my knowledge. I spend some days trying to dig in the forums, but i am still not feeling that comfortable.

First thing to say: I have succeded to install Snow Leopard 10.6.3 from a retail DVD using #####. The beautiful thing is it was totally painless and simpler than installing Windows. When I fired up my system my Audio, Display and Ethernet were working. I have succesfully installed some other software like Adobe Master Collection CS5, Ms Office 2011 even updated to the newer version of SL 10.6.4, still no problem as long as i start the computer with #####. So lets hit my questions:

1-As I couldn't learn how to obtain a custom DSDT for my board, I tried using ##### in ##### mode to be able to boot up the system w/o ##### CD. When the system boots up no Audio & low res Display(but strangely network is working). Is there a way so that i can install a bootloader without touching the original apple drivers?

2-I also tried to install the two bootloaders that came in the ##### package, seperately (Chamaleon 2.0 RC4 & PCI-EFI 10.6), each time re-formatting the system. But none of them were able to boot the system on their own. So i assume that I am supposed to install some kext&other files along with them??

3-What is the fakesmc file? I believe the bootloaders problem lies within this file but i also blame this file for the loss of audio&video.

4-My board has an ALC 889A sound card. ##### has some kext support for this device (LegacyHDA&HDAEnabler). But when I install them, the system puts the sound card to (in my words) sleep mode. When I am not using the audio for a while, there is a sound when I start using the card (like the one when you plug a jack to a powered-on-amplifier). Is there a way to fix that? (or as in my q.1 use original apple drivers)

5-As i said before when my system is untouched, the graphics card is working (by saying working, i mean that it operates on 1920x1080 @60Hz mode) I can choose other resolution options and even rotate the screen. But the system profiler says:

Unknown nVidia card:

Chipset Model: Unknown nVidia card

Type: GPU

Bus: PCIe

PCIe Lane Width: x16

VRAM (Total): 1024 MB

Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)

Device ID: 0x0641

Revision ID: 0x00a1

Is this something that can affect the performance? Is there a way to configure it correctly so that OSX understands what it is? (I must, say when experiencing some bootloader installations I once achieved to do this but I am not sure how :/ )

6-I have a Core2 Quad Q6600 CPU and 2 GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 @1600 Mhz. Same as the graphics card the system profiler displays:

Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon

Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

Number Of Processors: 1

Total Number Of Cores: 4

L2 Cache: 8 MB

Memory: 2 GB

Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz

Memory Slots:

ECC: Disabled

Bank0/1/A0:

Size: 2 GB

Type: DDR2 SDRAM

Speed: 667 MHz

Status: OK

Manufacturer: N/A

Part Number: N/A

Serial Number: N/A

So my question is similar: Is that something that affects the performance? I learned that the way to fix this lies within the com.apple.boot.plist file but I think that is only for fixing what is written in the profiler not the performance, is that true?

7-My final and most important question: Is it harmful to use this Hackintosh without any bootloader (except #####) and without any kexts, DSDT's, SMC's EFI emulations?

Am I having performance issues wthout knowing them to be?

I know that this has been a long post but forgive my lack of experience. I am into (and need to) learning new things on this subject and I do need your help.

Thank you & may the force be with you ;)

Yay that is one huge topic, I am on it!

About the dsdt: As far as i know, I have to reset my bios to optimized defaults and then set AHCI, 64bit power management and leave all other unchanged. Is that right?

I mean I do not have to install any KEXT, do I?

I will then use DSDTSE to extract a .dsl file and post here.

Just making everything clear :D

MaLd0n, thank you very much, you are simply the best :)

So far so good I do have sound and video. (I fixed the video by putting GraphicsEnabler=Yes to com.apple.boot.plist)

System profiler also recognizes my 9400 GT. I also fixed the RAM definiton by putting:

SMmemtype=24

SMmemtype=1600 to smbios.plist.

There is one new thing dough: I can not get NTFS drives to work now! :/

FAT flash memory drives are OK but nothing comes up when I plug in NTFS devices.

Any ideas?

Edit 1: I have already installed Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX (even before installing Chamaleon) , do you think there is a link? Because when I disable it, I can see the drives but can't write on them.

Edit 2: Edit 1 was the case when I had NTFS for Mac v6. So I tried to upgrade to v8 but now I can't see the drive after disabling NTFS or even after uninstalling the program. Does that mean that I have to start reinstalling SL? :/

Ok, just to make sure that everything is documented, I am writing the result about ntfs. I re-installed everything from the begining. Only this time, I first installed the bootloader and the kexts, then paragon ntfs. Now everything works perfectly. I even attached an old ATA drive to this machine and it also works.

Thank you again Mald0n! :)
