Core2Duo (Conroe) chipsets and chipsets for OSx86

hey bofors, is anything i can do to improve?

Thanks for posting your complete Xbench results. If you are running a LCD display (not a CRT), you can try disabling Beam Sync.

Memory is important...

I also read that in overclocking that memory is usually the limiting factor and that increasing the voltage to the northbridge (memory controller) can help.

memory is very important. mine comes 675 stock @ 1,9v and 4-4-4-12. i increased the voltage to 1,95. lose some timings to 5-5-5-15 and got 800 (400 fsb). since my multiplier was only 7, all i had to do was increasing the fsb and i wanted it to run 1:1 with the cpu so... this corsair worked like a charm. i increased the mhc voltage to 1,60. cpu voltage is stock.

regarding xbench. i dont really know if this is a good result or not, i've never compared it with similar computers. what score would be ok for a good computer?

Stainboy did you get my postage earlier on testing your rig with a Mac Game called AmericasArmy ? The best way to put your computer and video card under heavy pressure. Just tell me if the computer stays stable under heavy gaming.

both onboard lan are working on my p5w dh. didnt have to do anything

Oh..thanks :)

So..onboard lan and sound are no problem with Asus P5W DH

and the board even overclocks well..sounds like a perfect board for osx86 Conroe system. :P

Ok, so this looks darn cool. I'd like to built something like this as well, I never OC'd before though. What about the lifetime of the processor, is it going to last long at its limits stretched? (ofcourse, expectations based on your previous OC's)

started building my Conroe box today

So far it consists of:-

A Thermaltake Swing Aluminum Case

Intel DP965LT Motherboard (im prepared to wait for support with this)

2GB 667 Cosair RAM

Pioneer DVR111D DVD Writer

Im waiting on my 2.13GHZ Conroe to turn up along with my 200GB Hard Drive and my ATI Radion x1600 pro

first of all, i like maxtor, where i work we get lots of hitachi, WD, IBM messed up and damaged. Not many maxtor. well, i think only one. And maxline 3 is one of the best (considering the price) sata2 16mb cache hdd i've worked with. i know raptor is cool but its pricy and i dont belive its performance can match with the price difference. well, if i had lots of money i woyld have bougth 3 of them, 2 in raid0 other 1 with them.

nice rig sbeehre ;)

Hope that an OSX86 solution will be found for the 965 chipset. Concerning your choice of graphics card, the situation seems quite confusing to me for X1600XT cards (DVI out working or not etc., etc.). Are lower spec X1600 Pro cards a better choice especially for the DVI issue?

I plan on going with the E6600 as soon as the prices of Conroe come back down. Right now, I'm content with the ridiculously overclockable Pentium D 805.

I was wondering which way to point the fan, I'm gonna change it :( thanks

It probably won't make any difference seeing as its 22C for the CPU temp :) might help mobo tho

Can you see the temp on the OS interface or just on the BIOS interface? Or do you have a monitoring LCD on your case? Just wondering... 22 C is LOW man!

Im certain apple will use the 965 in a Conroe iMac soon as for the DVI question im not sure.... Ive only got an analog LCD so its not a problem for me.

As a long time Mac user, I hardly quailfy as an Intel fanboy. I am just recommending that people go with what is known to work well for OSx86.

Its wonderful to hear about the success people are having with 975x boards and Core2 Duo chips.

I am looking forward to building my own system once newegg has parts in stock.

I am curious how such apps as Final Cut 5.1 Universal will run on this new breed of hackintosh.

Also, is it time for an update to the osx86project components wiki??
