cost me a lot of time to find the simplest way to get the rev.2 fully working.

the audio controller, the 8111E ethernet controller without any sleep

problems and a short startup time.

tried first the cakewalk method, but it couldn't make me happy with rev.2

no sound, no network and a slowly feeling.

only the board was recognized correct.

so i used the best of two methods !

i took the DSDT file from the cakewalk installer(http://puru.se/),

and tonymacxs great #####.

i installed a fresh 10.6.0 on my hd.

with ##### supported (cd) as bootloader i started my

new system. (http://www.tonymacx86.com/Public/#####-Supported.zip)

ejected the bootloader and insert my previously burned

10.6.4 update combo. (Mac OS X 10.6.4 Combo Update)

did the update. NO restart.

now i started ##### (#####)from tonymacx and installed

only the DSDT file which i took out of the cakewalk (X58A-UD7)

installation.

restart ! fast boot !! nice benchmark (geekbench 9700)

now i had to install two kexts in the S/L/E folder

the realtek r1000.kext (think it's from psystar)

and the older voodoo had kext from tonymacx.

removed the apple hda kext.

after that i started kext utility.

finish !!

everything works perfekt !!!! full 64 bit !!

only one little cosmetic thing, i don't get the right FSB displayed

in the system profiler, and i forgot the flag to change it in

the simbios plist. anyhow no problem cause the board

has QPI instead of FSB

I'm interested by where you found the DSDT on the Kakewalk website, would it suffice to use the rev 2.0 DSDT from TonyMac's site? I'm only curious as I'm just about to start my build and am trying to do as much research as humanly possible whilst i acquire all the components!

I'm interested by where you found the DSDT on the Kakewalk website, would it suffice to use the rev 2.0 DSDT from TonyMac's site? I'm only curious as I'm just about to start my build and am trying to do as much research as humanly possible whilst i acquire all the components!

Yes, I'm using that DSDT successfully for my X58-UD7 rev2, BIOS FA motherboard.

Also, after 2 weeks of trying many combinations of things, I've found that ##### Supported along with ##### was the tool which worked. But ##### didn't include 4 key Kexts that I found were needed to make all the I/O ports work right: LegacyHDA.kext, HDAEnabler.kext, AppleHDA.kext -- this needs to be the "rolled back to 10.6.2" version (and actually, I haven't truly proven that #####'s rollback version isn't the same as what I downloaded, so feel free to go firstly with #####'s audio 10.6.2 rollback), and RealtekR1000.kext which needs to be used to get the LAN properly working.

Note that the names may match what you see in some of the Extensions folders, but the content of the Kexts that I mention above are different than what comes with ##### (with possible exception of AppleHDA.kext). The "high-definition-audio" kexts that I list are what finally worked with the ALC889 audio chip used in the X58-UD7 motherboard. Until I used this set, I either had no sound, or only sound out with the microphone/line input not working.

Also, there are a lot of key settings to run on ##### if you want success. That is run after installing 10.6.0 and the combo update to 10.6.4. Do check out TonyMac's site for instructions on how to use it. I had to delete the 889 audio Kext installed by ##### (actually, you could probably skip installing any audio kext when running #####), and use the ones I mentioned above.

Important settings for ##### were:

Audio: Don't select anything, then after running #####, install the kexts I mention with Kext Helper b7

Disk: select IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector

Graphics: select NVEnabler (assuming you have a Nvidia card)

PCI Root ID Fix: select For Chameleon 2.0 RC4

note that for Network, you'll need to use the kext I mention above, which is the same as mentioned at the top of

this post by estofan

com.apple.boot.plist: select both 32-bit and 64-bit GraphicsEnabler=No

smbios.plist: select MacPro - Core i7

Finally, select all of the OSx86 Software.

You'll need the Kext Helper b7 application after running ##### to put in the extra Kexts I listed above. At the moment, I can't remember where I got those. If you come across this post, or anyone else does, I'll look into adding that exact information. Or I could even upload the Kexts I used to make this guide practical.

One final note. I just now got the eSATA ports working on Gigabytes ports 8,9. Use the ##### JMicron eSATA Kext to get the eSata ports working. Important too: in the BIOS, be sure you enable those eSATA/Gigabyte ports as AHCI, not as IDE, which is the default setting when you do a "load defaults". Also, I had no problem keeping 12 GB of RAM installed during the entire configuration process, despite the suggestion in the ##### guide that you need to take out extra RAM so that your system has a max of 4 GB for doing the install and set up.

So in the end, the only things not working are the new USB version 3.0 ports, and the SATA III, 6 Gbps ports. No big deal for either of those! Everything else is working well so far as my tests are showing.
