The i7-930 says it can only handle 800/1066MHz DDR3 RAM. According to Gigabyte: “If your RAM has XMP, enable XMP in the BIOS. If your RAM does not have XMP, (as mine does not), then go into the BIOS and set the BCLK to 133. Then speed up the RAM to 1333MHz and change the timings from [8 8 8 20] to [9 9 9 24]. Save and Exit.” I tried this but it doesn’t work 100%. It lasts for awhile and then I’ll get a BIOS overclock warning and it forces the RAM back to 1079MHz. I ran Geekbench with it both ways and it’s about the same, so I’m leaving it at 1079MHz for now. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone knows how to fix this. Hope you found this guide helpful. AuralArchitect
SYSTEM PROFILE (in brief) ------------------------------------------------*/GA-x58A-UD3R (rev2) i7-930 2.8GHz 12GB 1333MHz DDR3 XFX ATI HD5770 1GB GDDR5 MacOS X 10.6.4 What does not work? ----------------------------------------------------------*/ - TRIPLE MONITORS // DVI(1) is primary. DVI(2) is secondary. HDMI is alternate secondary. You can have any two active at one time. What has not been tested? --------------------------------------------------*/ - DisplayPort I have almost exactly the same system... Very nice guide! Thank you! Triple monitors actually DO work. You just have to utilize the display port, and if you do not have a native display port monitor then you must use an ACTIVE adapter (which is what I'm using). They've come down in price to a reasonable $25. A boot file which supports 3 monitors is also required (Kabyl's test boot works- even in 64 bit). I have not yet managed to get sound via HDMI or DP yet. I've followed various instructions carefully- it's most likely either an incompatibility with my card or something that I've been overlooking. Still hoping to get that working though... I can tell you that 7.1 surround is not supported by AppleHDA at this time, so you can not get it working with the onboard soundcard unless you use different drivers- but I don't know what those might be if they even exist. Thanks again for your very thorough guide!
