Dragoneye_XP
How can I get 10.6 to work without ACPI? Is there a driver needed or something because 10.1 worked perfectly. But 10.3 and newer give me the "Unable to find a driver for this platform: ACPI" panic. In VMware, they will all work, install, and boot, but I noticed that if you turn off VMware's ACPI support (by adding acpi.present="FALSE"), you will also get the panic. How it to work on my PC? BigMama
Hello, I have the same problem. I try to disable tha ACPI in the bios but it still does't work. Did you find a solution ?

banini_jeque
Isn't the deal that the ACPI driver really isn't on the install DVD? I looked and the install DVD doesn't even have an extensions folder, just extensions.mkext. I suppose what one could do is shadow mount the dmg/iso and copy it on there along with any other useful extensions. I know how to do shadow mounts, but I think something might need to be done to the extensions.mkext on there in order for the system to actually load the ACPI driver. I don't feel like risking a bunch of blank DVDs testing this theory until I've seen if someone replies who might actually know how to set it all up. banini_jeque
Okay well I put shadowed the extensions folder with an ACPI driver on there, and burned it, and it didn't work. It just took longer to panic when it could find the driver. I don't get why no one has an answer for how to fix this.
Guest bikedude880
Have you tried disabling it in your BIOS? (hopefully you can access that feature.) Other than that, right now I am out of ideas. Best of luck!
banini_jeque
Yeah I can't find it in my bios. I wonder if maybe there is a jumper on the motherboard for it. That would be oldschool.
mifki
Try booting with platform=X86PC?
banini_jeque
I did. Other people have tried that too and it didn't work for them either. I think it really just needs the driver, and I think that the way OS X works, something needs to be done to Extensions.mkext to make it load, but I don't remember what that would be. banini_jeque
Well nm that. I realized you can boot without the kext cache files, so I burned one without them that had AppleACPIPlatform.kext, and it still wouldn't boot. I believe I've tried both versions 1.0.1 and 1.0.3 of the ACPI driver with no luck.
banini_jeque
My dreams of running Mac OS X on my PC are being crushed due to this ACPI thing. I was running 10.4.3 on it fine for a while, but I messed it up somehow and I wanted to upgrade to 10.4.6. I guess this is the end...
swag01
I got things to boot with my system by turning ACPI on in my system. You might try to turn it on. I'm still having problems with reboot. Even with the reboot switch, but I can login to the machine without problems.
banini_jeque
Well I have no way to turn it on or off, it's just always on. I have a Soyo Dragon Lite P4X400 motherboard in case anyone can tell me anything about that.
banini_jeque
I'm bumping this to find out if anyone has any new ideas about why the kernel panics right away on the 10.4.6 DVD. I think it's JaS or whatever. It says it can't find a driver for ACPI, and panics. I can't turn ACPI on or off on my system. What should I do? I used to be able to run 10.4.3. wanpakboy
I had that problem, and a beta bios upgrade is what helped me. you should check out softpedia or somehting and see if your board has a bios update, even a beta one.
banini_jeque
Nope. I updated my bios with the latest beta version, which wasn't very stable. I had to reset the bios with the jumper every time I reset otherwise I wouldn't get video. So then I went back one to the latest non beta version, and I still get the same ACPI kernel panic. JaS
Try setting ACPI to S3 in your bios.
banini_jeque
Nope! Can I use other bios updates from other brand's boards as long as they use the via p4x400 chipset?
banini_jeque
Still no fix? Alright, well I guess I'll just pack this thing up in the closet again then rather than having it take up space.
gwprod12
I'm curious. What exactly is the problem? What error message do you get, etc?
banini_jeque
It says this: panic(cpu 0 caller 0x00399CA3): Unable to find driver for this platform: "ACPI". And then I don't know if the debugger called panic stuff after that is really important, and it would be a pain to type out, so I'll just give you this unless you absolutely need that. Ritter
Here is the rest of that message (I am getting it too, and I am using the 10.4.6 JaS)... Link to image Don't complain about image quality, its just there so you can read the error.
banini_jeque
Yeah thats exactly what I get Ritter.
niknar1900
I have an Asus A8N-VM CSM, and every time i tried to install with the DVD i would get that error no matter what options i tried to enable or disable. UNTIL, i checked the ACPI for my motherboard, and i found alot of people on Linux were having problems with it due to the fact ACPI was not correctly implemented. I updated to the newest BIOS, and the error went away (Asus fixed it). So i suggest you find the latest BIOS update, and if it still doesn't work email the manufacturer until they do something, which is what a few did for my mobo. good luck
