I know there are a couple of 311c support forums with information and all, but i've put this guide together because i never followed any, and it might seem useful to some people.

First of all the model i have is a Compaq Mini 311c 1020SA.

Format a 8GB flash memory with Journaled & GUID partition table.

Run "/system/installation/packages/OSInstall.mpkg" on the Snow Leopard Retail 10.6.3 DVD and install it to the 8GB flash memory.

Run Chameleon Bootloader 2.0 RC4 and install it to the flash mem.

Download the patched Atom 10.3.0 kernel and copy it to the root of the flash mem (First delete the existing "mach_kernel" from the flash's root and paste the patched one).

Install the VoodooPS2Controller pkg on the flash mem.

Copy FakeSMC.kext to "extra/extensions".

Now you are ready to boot Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on your Mini 311c with this flash memory.

Once you see the video & complete the registration forms, proceed with the following:

Open Disk Utility, format you main hard disk with Journaled & GUID partition table and restore whatever is on the flash memory to your newly created disk.

Once this is finished install Chameleon Bootloader 2.0 RC4 to your main disk.

Using kext helper install VoodooHDA, NVEnabler64 & VodooBattery kexts.

Not necessary, but crucial for some: Download OSx86Tools and run all the maintenance options (My boot-time increased dramatically from 3 minutes to 40 seconds).

Now you are ready to boot into Snow Leopard 10.6.3 with your main hard disk.

Once this part was a success, proceed with the 10.6.4 upgrade:

Install Combo Update 10.6.4 to your existing 10.6.3 installation.

Without restarting, replace the "mach_kernel" with the patched Atom 10.4.0 kernel.

Put SleepEnabler.kext on "extra/extensions".

Extra:

Copy the Acer/Dell color profile to "System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles" and see the difference. It comes very close to the color quality of a MacBook.

The only thing that will not work using this guide is the stock Wifi. Replace it with a compatible one or get a USB Wifi Adapter.

Some people report Kernel Panics when plugging in the power cord. If so, replace VoodooBattery.kext with an alternative.

Click to download the needed files.
