Moose Tracks
In a way they're both right. Inforworld is looking at the RIGHT NOW and right now, there is still a need for a personal computer whether laptop or desktop. Jobs might be looking at the near future. The future isn't going to be point and click and I think we will see more of those Star Trekky kind of computers where you just talk to it to interface. There won't be a lot of mouse or keyboard usage and I think we're closer to that than a lot of us are willing to admit.

I'd love to see that happen, I feel quite often that mouse and keyboard are outdated, but I doubt it will happen in the near future.

Wonder why they mention Jobs and Gates? Because they are the ones who control the computing industry. I don't see an iPad type of computer taking over the laptop or desktop until it becomes easier to use as a portable data device. It would have to run applications and have an easy I/O methodology. Even Apple's touch keyboard on an iphone is not that easy to use. I think they are talking futures and hardware will drive whatever happens there.
