Insert an OSX install disk & hold down the 'C' key until the installer runs & see whether it or Disk Utility finds an HDD. . . . if it doesn't take the HDD out & check it works. From what I remember - if you need to replace the HDD there's a 120-ishGB limit to HDD size on G3s. You will almost certainly need to replace the system battery on a Mac this old.
