vahnx
In all versions of Leopard I tried (currently on 10.5.8) my DVD drive will tend to crash sometimes. Not only will it crash the app I'm using, but I can no longer eject my disk. If I click the button to eject DVD in the system tray, Finder crashes. If I go to check out my DVD specs, System Profiler will crash. The only solution to use my DVD drive or any application that accesses the DVD is a hard power off and booting back up. If I manage to reboot via software, any OS I boot into, the drive will still be "locked". Does anyone know of a fix? Haven't posted here in a while, hopefully my system specs are in my signature. It's an HP Pavillion Elite af something.
dan chip5
I had a similar issue with my 2 IDE dvd drives hooked up to sb710 chipset. I fixed it by using a brand new pata cable and set the first drive to cable select and the second drive to slave. I also installed these additional kexts to my extras folder: 1. AHCIportinjector.kext 2.ATAportinjector.kext 3.IOAHCIblockstorageinjector.kext 4.JmicronATAinjectork.kext Im not sure what fixed it. I suggest first swapping out the PATA cable (use a new one or the one that came with your MB). If that doesnt work, set one as cable select, and the other as slave. if that doesnt work, install the kexts above. Conclusion: I have two IDE dvd-rw drives working perfect with snow leopard 10.6.3 SB710 chipset Hard drives are connected via SATA

Gringo Vermelho
Try disabling sleep for hard drives in energy saver prefs. Many PC DVD drives are incompatible with this setting. There's a DSDT fix for this but it's not a universal fix, certain conditions must be met for it to work. I don't remember the details, so check Master Chief's DSDTs and look through the thread for specific information: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1280888
tdk1007
Did you find a fix for this? I'm using snow leopard and if i cancel a rip in handbrake or Ripit then the drive crashes and the only way for it to be recognized again is to shutdown and boot up again. I was able to burn a bunch of cds without any trouble in itunes though.
