siromega
Ever since I upgraded to 10.6.3 (so i could play Portal), I've been getting KPs while using the computer (normally I cant go more than 30-45 minutes without it KPing, regardless of what I do - either let it sit there and do nothing or actually do work, read websites, etc). GA35-DS3L, 4GB RAM, GTS250 1GB, dual boot with W7 - originally used BlackOSX's guide for the 45-DS3L but it worked OK when I used a DSDT for the 35-DS3L Cham RC3 (I think) Any ideas as to why this would be happening? I went to the place on the HD where the KP logs are supposed to go in 10.6 but that directory is empty, so its hard for me to track down whats causing it because there is nothing in the logs to point me in any direction. rfuilrez
I had a similar problem, on a similar board (GA-EP35C-DS3R) When I upgraded from 10.6.1 to 6.3. I don't know what caused it, nor how to fix it. I noticed it happened more when I tried to use 3d acceleration than if I was just surfing the web and using iTunes. My system runs fine now, but I did a fresh install of 10.6.0 and then used the combo update to 10.6.3. I wanted to change partitions around, and took this as an easy opportunity to do so. I too followed BlackOSX's guide for the 45-DSXX boards back in Oct/November or something. I still have an older version of his guide, and files that go with it which is a little better than his new version if you would like it. I am currently using Chameleon RC4 with the netkas 10.6 PC_EFI boot file. Which, all things considered is the only thing that I changed. Also, I added the new SleepDisabler which isn't version specific with "pmVersion=19" in my boot.plist. siromega
I followed that reinstall/recover road last night. This morning I put the debug line into my com.apple.boot.plist file and guess what, I didn't have a KP most of the day (I did have a KP early this morning before I put the debug part in). I just upgraded to 10.6.2 via combo. I'll see how this goes for a day (but at least now I can reinstall xcode and get back on iphone app dev), and if its OK then I'll upgrade to 10.6.3. I've been doing without sound since I stripped my /Extras/Extensions folder down to just facesmc.kext (it appears my DSDT works fine for sleep as I'm able to sleep the machine without sleepenabler.kext in the /E/E folder, go fig). imacken
I've been doing without sound since I stripped my /Extras/Extensions folder down to just facesmc.kext. Obvious question, but have you tried VoodooHDA? Has always worked for me in any install of OS X. It has to go into S/L/E not E/E. Use kextutility or terminal commands to install. Make sure you get the 64-bit version if appropriate. Worth a try anyway. If it doesn't work then just remove it. siromega
No haven't tried VoodooHDA. I might with 10.6.3. For now I'm back to 10.6.2 after no KPs. Slowly adding back to /E/E. Added LegacyHDA for sound earlier and just added orange icon fix for... orange icon fixes. The only issue I see now is that iTunes wont see my iphone or ipad. iPhoto comes up when I plug it in, but it doesn't show up in iTunes or in Xcode as devices I can test on (even though they're both provisioned). Edit: turns out there was a 6kb update on software update to fix the issue with iPhones and ipads not working.
