some gurus said it's SNC (sony notebook controller) fault, so it make senses. Do you think we can somehow access or edit this snc or we can overwrite this IDAB in dsdt?

i think it s really important to get a trick to solve the problem :

How do systems like Ubuntu and Fedora get past this issue?

they use latest nvidia driver who fix the problem.. before that nvidia fix people used to force the edid. We alreadi tried to force every single setting (edid too) without any success :D

hi...

i have a blank internal display with my sony vaio VPC CW 21 FXW

i3 330m

ndivia 310m 256mb

4 gb ram ddr3

500 gb..

i have all the things that u say:

when i use graphicsenabler=yes i have QE activated and full video in my external lcd but nothing in the internal.

i feel that we can solve this issue.. i am not an expert but i feel it....

i have something like 5 partitions..

1-windows 7

2-windows xp

3- snow leopard 10.6.3

4-snow leopard 10.6.3 (i have 2 of them, so i am able to reapir the other and try different things.)

5-linux wifiway..

now i have the ioreg, ioregistryexplorer and the system profile of my system without graphics enabler, and with graphicsenabler=yes and nv_disable=1 together ('cause i dont have the external monitor right now)-.

a attach the files... so if u have any ideas that you want to try , feel free to ask me.

another things... searching on the web i found a 310m linux driver to fully the graphic card... the extension is run.. is any way to decode this file to see how they managed the comunication internal display-nvidia 310m ???

so that's all for now... sorry my ARGENTINIAN ENGLISH..

thanks for reading.

hi all just a little idea from windows we don't have lot of information on the graphics problem with some app to check hardware

the idea is with an utility like this:

http://www.osx86.es/?p=1073

we can launch pc apps to read the edid or other information like dsdt from the mac session and compare things and maybe find ...

i compared dsdt extracted from osX and from windows, it's exatly the same thing :(

Our problem is this SNC, i don't know how to access it, how to modify it (you can't modify via dsdt) or how to trick it :(

I agree that SNC ( or Sonypi or one of its other names) is the problem. It governs certain acpi events and, I believe, the way the laptop "speaks" to its screen (maybe generating its own EDID for instance).

Either way, on my Vaio as soon as the graphics card is correctly recognised by any means, the screen shuts down.

i try to find a similiar pci specification and the only that i found is this one:

*-display

description: VGA compatible controller

product: GT218 [GeForce 310M]

vendor: nVidia Corporation

physical id: 0

bus info: pci@0000:01:00.0

version: a2

width: 64 bits

clock: 33MHz

capabilities: pm

configuration: driver=nvidia

latency=0

memory:c0000000-cfffffff

memory:d0000000-d1ffffff

ioport:5000(size=128)

memory:d3080000-d30fffff

looking at the capabilities list i think that they are different. so Is posible that there is where (for example) interact the sony SNC ??? i will try to debug mac in this days to see wath i found when starting the system with and without GRAPHICSENABLER.... i don't know any assembler language or anything so, i somebody can help it will be great...

so... for last.. i try installing lion os.. but i have the sema display problem....

hi again.. it seems like i am alone...

but for the record i will continue...

i found (in the nvidia website) a freebsd driver...

i know nothing of driver programing but i read the source of the driver just in case...

i found this line on the archive call :nv-reg.h =

/*

* Option: Mobile

*

* Description:

*

* The Mobile registry key should only be needed on mobile systems if

* SoftEDIDs is disabled (see above), in which case the mobile value

* will be used to lookup the correct EDID for the mobile LCD.

*

* Possible Values:

*

* ~0 = auto detect the correct value (default)

* 1 = Dell notebooks

* 2 = non-Compal Toshiba

* 3 = all other notebooks

* 4 = Compal/Toshiba

* 5 = Gateway

*

* Make sure to specify the correct value for your notebook.

*/

#define __NV_MOBILE Mobile

#define NV_REG_MOBILE NV_REG_STRING(__NV_MOBILE)

-- is posible that this mobile reg could be a solution for our problem... by default is set to 0,so how can we change this setting in our mac os ??? is posible to convert the freeBSD nvidia driver to MAC os... ????

thanks for reading...

i'm waiting for some help.....

i read the bios mod link... i am, also, not sure about the info that could be change on the bios. i am not an expert, but is not the same to change the dsdt ??? sorry for my ignorance...

now i am looking into DSDT , to understand the WMI and some PEGP info ... i wish i could have lots of vaio DSDT to compare that sorts of things...

perhaps re-writing the nvidia drivr from FreeBSD driver could help...

i don't know... i am thinking on selling this SHI* out...

Hi sonrie69,

thanks for your effort!

If you want I can include my DSDT from a Sony Vaio FZ21M with the "old" 8400M GT only, but I'm on Windows 7 32bit.

It's the same thing for you the DSDT-Windows side?
