Eiko
I have a AMD opteron 146 which support both SSE2 and SSE3, so I choose both patch to install. Is it correct? Now I get random kernel panic and from which OS is killed. I wonder if it has something to do with it ? waremaster
I get the same thing if I install both. I also get it if I install just the SSE3. But if I install only the SSE2 it works flawless. My machine is a Dell Optiplex GX520 with a P4 3.2 prescotte processor. So I know it's SSE3. Try just installing SSE2. Deviant0ne
You're not supposed to install both; one or the other. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21666-simple-question-sse2-or-sse3/#findComment-143213 Share on other sites
Jonty
Strange, my install was working perfectly with both of them. Until I installed the 10.4.7 update that is... Maybe i'll reinstall with only SSE3 and see if the update works. retroz
If you have SSE3, install SSE3, difference in performance is night and day! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21666-simple-question-sse2-or-sse3/#findComment-143585 Share on other sites
Eiko
Ok I tested to install with only SSE3, working fine, until I install CHUD with Xcode. So I check the log to see what's the problem and saw something like this: Fail to launch backtrace module(with dependence of kernel), CHUDKernLib So I'm pretty sure that it is CHUD who raped my OSX Then I install Xcode without CHUD, and everything works fine, cheers ! My PC is, AMD Opteron 146 2G DDR2 400 2G 2 Sata, 1 IDE ASUS A8N5X mainbord Geforce 6800XT I used to installed both SSE2 and SSE3, it worked well, only once when I re-install sata driver, it crashed I'm still not if it's OSX who's not stable itself or it's because I installed both patch Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21666-simple-question-sse2-or-sse3/#findComment-143600 Share on other sites
gwprod12
You will ALWAYS get a kernel panic if you install 10.4.7 from software update. A L W A Y S. If you have an SSE3 cpu, select SSE3, if not, select SSE2. When you select both, it still only installs one. Because one overwrites the other. reghost
so where do i go to enable SSE3? From a fresh install? Is it a specific disk image that carries this option? zedzed
I too would like to know how to enable SSE3. I changed CPU after initial install. Now I have Pentium D 940 But system profiler shows only SSE2 and no SSE3 Thoughts? EDIT: I just found this http://www.osx86.theplaceforitall.com/howto/ It might help - will test later Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21666-simple-question-sse2-or-sse3/#findComment-176701 Share on other sites
