Windows04
Hi there, I have a perfectly working hackintosh (snow leopard 10.6.2) with the Radeon 4870 HD graphics card. I use this card for my DVI display. So no problems here . But I also have an (old) tv in my room, who only has an S-video (and scart) connectors. With my previous hackintosh (with an Radeon x1950 pro card), the s-video port of that card was recognised and i could simply connect my hackintosh with my tv and see my series/movies on that screen. But because the s-video port on my Radeon 4870 HD can't be recognized, I can't connect my hackintosh to my TV. So here's my question: Can I use 2 graphics cards in one hackintosh? So for example the Radeon 4870 HD, which I use for my monitor and the radeon x1950 pro, which I use for my TV. So no SLI or Crossfire here, just 2 graphics cards who work independently, giving image to 2 different displays... RedEyeZ88
this is exactly what I want to do. I have a perfect Hackintosh going as well, but I have an NVIDIA GeForce 120 GT and a PNY GeForce 9800 GT. I want to do this as well, with no SLI. Any one? Gringo Vermelho
Stick with the most powerful card (9800 GT) and get TV-out working instead. Gringo Vermelho
No, there is only the hard way. It doesn't get any more straightforward than in Krazubu's guide. I have all three outputs working on my 9800GTX+ (DVI+DVI+Analog TV Out) and can use any two outputs simultaneously with mirroring and rotation fully working. The TV is properly detected as a Standard Def TV and I get some extra settings and resolutions too. I use a crazy combination of DSDT injection (Display-cfg and NVCAP values), Chameleon's GraphicsEnabler, and loading the BIOS from my own card, as patched by NVEnabler, extracted from ioreg and saved as .rom with a hex editor. I describe this in a little more detail towards the end of the NVEnabler thread I linked to above. There's a problem where "detect displays" doesn't work when I unplug the TV and plug in a secondary monitor. It works fine the other way, ie unplugging secondary monitor and plugging in the TV. It doesn't bother me that much so I haven't attempted to fix it. HDMI is untested, for some people it just works, while others have reported success when using Chameleon to load the BIOS from a 8800GT video card (or even crossflashing their own card, which is something I wouldn't recommend doing). The issue is supposedly with the HDCP signal, copy protection built in to the HDMI data stream. My card came with a DVI to HDMI adapter but I don't own any displays with a HDMI connector so there's no way for me to test if it works or not. Read both threads (the links I posted above) and read all pages. All the information you need is there. HDMI info is here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=214129 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1452539 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/213969-can-i-use-2-non-identical-graphics-cards-in-one-system/#findComment-1523089 Share on other sites
RedEyeZ88
Thank you so much for the help. I do have a question with this though. So My TV is an HDTV, and I want it to be displayed via DVI to HDMI, which is how i Have it right now. My problem is when I use Dual Display and work on my computer, and want to watch a movie from the computer, I have to unplug the DVI going to the monitor and plug in the one going into the TV. This is the reason why I want to have 2 seperate graphics cards running, so that I have 4 ports to plug in. I do have a small, 3rd monitor that I want going as well. Gringo Vermelho
You cannot use more than two displays at the same time on the same video card in OS X (at least not on Nvidia cards, don't know about ATI) so if you need more than two active displays you'll have to figure out how to get your GT 120 going as well. I can't help you with that but I've seen tutorials on how to do it. Good Luck.
