A Nonny Moose
Apple stopped using system numbers with System 7.5.5. It became OS (blah) with OS 7.6. So it's actually OS 8, not System 8 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/21370-its-not-system-8/ Share on other sites

bluedragon1971
I still have a Mac OS 8.1 CD around here somewhere from when I bought my first Mac back in 1998 (a Performa 6360CD, the last display model a local Sears store had when they stopped carrying Macs). The Mac came with System 7.5 I think, but I bought the 8.1 CD which had just come out. I still use it occasionally when I play with Basilisk II, since that is the latest system that it will boot.
