Hey everyone,

I'm embarking on my first hackintosh build.

I'm trying to keep my mobo and graphics card under $300 and am building around the i7 930

My board is probably going to be GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 but it's not set in stone

My largest conundrum is the graphics card. The last few months I've read people referencing the gtx 285 as "I wish I could afford this." I was considering picking one up from ebay for like $260, but a lot of recent builds are using the gts 250 sli which is half the price and from what I have gathered, better at least for video games when used in tandem.

I intend to do higher end graphics processing. Such as huge vector file batches, and short scenes of 3d rendering.

I'm open for opinions and assault. Noob builder here.

OK. so very soon Nvidia is suppose to release their 400 series graphics cards. But they seem to hardly compare to Radeon's. Does anyone know the market specifics. Will the gtx 285 drop in price or be phased out entirely? I assume it will be phased out but drop on the dark markets like ebay.

I'm thinking of scrapping the 285 and going with radeon's 5850. There is a deal on that and my ud5 mobo at newegg now anyway. But then again multiple smaller cards might give better performance at a lower price, but it seems tougher to get your hack to recognize more than one card.

get yourself a used 285 and you'll be fine regardless this card is pretty amazing i'm pushing pretty much everything i play at 2560x1600 maxed out....new cards always take a while to have support

Yeah, It has all the rave and it is definitely my first choice because of all the praise. But all the reviews I can find are for gamers. I do n0 gaming. All graphics processing and maybe some audio work. Just looking for all the opinons.

That and Nvidia releases their next series in 15 days, so I was wondering if I could just snag it for $50 cheaper in a month. Kinda diving in ears deep and learning as much as I can to keep my nose above water.

I expect be running at 1980x1200
